Tom's POV

Although I didn't get any sleep the previous night, I drove to the hospital early the next morning. I couldn't wait much longer. As the nurse had promissed the day before, this time I was allowed to visit Julia even if it was barely 8 am as I showed up at the main reception. Ignoring which way  led to the Intensive Care Unit where her room was supposed to be, I had been instructed to follow a man dressed in a white lab coat through the endless hallways. For some reason, each step forward was making me grow more anxious, but I kept going anyway. My anxiety got worse as we reached the unit I was searching for.

"Here we are", the man said as we arrived in front of a closed brown door

"Here we are", the man said as we arrived in front of a closed brown door. He quickly walked away, leaving me there. Closing my eyes, I took a deep breath and swallowed the lump in my throat before finally bringing myself to open the door.

Gathering all my courage, I allowed my eyes to discover the room I had now entered.

And there she was, asleep in her bed.

My heart ached at the sight of her. She was so pale. Even paler than when she lost consciousness in my arms, which I would have never thought being possible.

Heart monitors and oxygen tanks  were attached to her. The constant beeping of the monitors was the only noise echoing in the silent room.

Gradually getting used to the view, I hesitantly took a few steps closer to the bed. Standing next to it, I studied her features.

She was so beautiful.

She had been shot in her back, lost so much blood, gone through surgery... And yet even after all this, she was still stunning. Her hair were perfectly framing her face, its dark color contrasting with her complexion.

Scanning my surroundings a little more in details now, I spotted two chairs in a corner. I brought one closer to the bed and sat on it before reaching out for her hand.
