"What's wrong Sai? You were looking for me?" Sai smiled.
"Yes, although I suppose I was searching for you since I cannot see." He chuckled slightly. "My mother asked me to find you, she has a task for you." I followed him into a small room, with a round wooden table inlaid with gold. Floating above the center of the table was an orb made of glowing blue glass as big as a large watermelon. Lady Silinia leaned over the table, her eyes locked onto mine and she smiled.
"At last you've arrived! I have a task for you. Tell me do you know about the High King?" The door closed behind me announcing that Siamak had left.
"Yes Venus told me before arriving here that you were the Queen over this ocean but you obeyed the High King, but I don't know his name or anything." Silinia nodded, her eyes shutting before sitting on a nearby cushioned chair.
"That's correct. His job is to protect us from the humans and from each other. Because of this, each castle has an orb much like this one, which allows us to speak to either the High King or the other Oceanic Royals. He knows everything about what happens within his waters, so he knows of you and has become quite interested. He has summoned you to see him, Frost." Silinia sighed, exhaustion and pride mixed together. "You are to go with Talon to see him. I do not know what he wants with the two of you, so be ready for anything, and go with my blessing."
I came around her and began to gently rub her shoulders, an old habit that I started with Emma. Slowly Silinia submitted to my hands, leaning forward allowing me more access to her shoulder blades, and slowly the stiffness of her neck and shoulders came undone. She whispered a 'Thank you' and I only smiled.
Eventually, she spoke again. "Talon isn't happy about this. Originally it was just going to be you going, he insisted on coming with you. He really likes you kid, he's only yelled at me like that once before. Please take care of him out there, please?" Her hand reached back to tap mine.
"Of course, I'll protect him with my life, he is my partner, right?" We both chuckled at that. She whispered 'That's true' before falling asleep. I quietly made my way out of the room, closing the door behind me as quietly as possible, and notified a maid of Silinia's predicament before making my way to my room.
"I wonder what the High King is like? What does he want from me?" Thoughts rushed into my head making me giddy but wary. I sighed, "I suppose I'll find out when I get there." Opening my door, I was surprised to see Talon sitting on the edge of my bed. He raised his head with a smile, but he had obviously been waiting for me.
"Ahh, you're back, did my mother tell you what's happening?" Two large mailbags sat at his fins, already filled with things.
"Yeah, you and I are to visit the high king. Did you already pack us up?" He smiled.
"Mom wants us gone A.S.A.P. so," his voice faded, and his eyes fell to the floor, so I took a seat next to him, our shoulders bumping into each other.
"She also told me you got mad at her. She said you have only yelled at her once before. She looked tired and sad, when I went in there, hell she fell asleep afterward." He looked up at that.
"She actually fell asleep in front of you? She must trust you greatly." He chuckled, bumping into me. He stretched his arms above him before laying down completely. His eyes closed as he took a deep breath. "I used to 'live' on land. We didn't always live in this castle, there are more all over the Atlantic. There is one in the Gulf of Mexico, I grew up there, it's still my favorite. I guess you could say it's more of a 'summer home' since it's smaller. Anyway, the closest human town was a place called Galveston in the glorious state of Texas. I would go there often and I made a human friend there. Her name was Aria.
She was a homeless child, her parents had abandoned her on the side of the road. A prostitute by the name of Esmeralda found her and raised her. But they were basically homeless, they lived in a wooden hut, but it was burned down.
I had met her by chance, we quite literally bumped into each other. We were the same age and I fell for her. She was six when Esmeralda died, in her arms. It was a few weeks later that the hut burned down. So she was alone. The two of us braved the weather together." He chuckled a little. "At one point it got super cold and we only had one blanket, so we stripped until we were in our underwear and cuddled under that damn thing." He smiled hugging his arms.
"Mom got mad that I had fallen for her, a human. So she told me to break our connection. It's not that love between human and mer is forbidden, but I'm the first prince. I understand that I'd live far longer than her but," He sighed. "She and I went to a small cliff that overlooked the docks, where a lighthouse was, and I slipped and fell over the edge. She grabbed my wrist and tried to pull me up but I made her let go, you should've heard her scream my name.
"I yelled at Mom for the first time, yelling that I hated her for taking me away from Aria but there was nothing I could do. I went back two years later to see if I could find her, but I couldn't, I asked Sia if he could tell me where she was. Somehow she managed to get to Scotland. I couldn't go but I was happy to know that she was alive." He looked at me and sat up quickly wiping my cheek, an icy tear had fallen without my knowledge.
"I'm sorry Talon." I sobbed quietly. He only smiled at me, before standing up. He threw on his satchel and threw mine at me.
"It's not your fault Frost. You ready to head out bro?" His normal smile brightened up the room and forced me to follow suit. I only nodded throwing the satchel's strap over my shoulder. We left the castle a few minutes later, stopped only to retrieve Venus and Jupiter, before making our way out of the safety of the bubble and into the ocean.
