I took a step back for Devan waiting for his reaction. I bit the inside of my cheek. He looked shocked. I was shocked too, I mean I like him but that probably wasnt the best thing to do right now. Before I could think I turned on my heal and started to walk away. He grabbed my arm and turned me around, then took a step closer. He smiled. Our eyes met.
"I'm sorry." I said. He suddenly looked confused.
"For what? Kissing me? That's not something to apologize for." He took a step closer. I took one back.
"I'm sorry, but because I shouldn't have kissed you, I wasn't thinking and I'm under some stress. Well I guess everyone is, but I don't think I like you that way. That's why I'm sorry. It was a mistake." I turned again thinking what an idiot I am. I wanted to scream at myself: What's wrong with your brain? I don't think it's working properly!
"Hey, wait." Devan called out. I turned back around now a few feet apart from him. "I understand. But we can still hang out, you need a friend more right now. So, let me be one. Talk to me tell me what's going on." I walked closer to him and we sat on a log. "Here." He said as he held something out to me.
"Where did you get this?" I asked surprised as I realized it was a chocolate bar.
"That is for me and the department store to know." He smiled, and pulled out another. "I stole two from the managers office." He whispered to me. I laughed, then took a bite out of my candy bar.
"I have definitely missed this. I used to sit on my best friends porch and we would look up at the stars. We would get these chocolate bars from his grandma. I miss him. I miss my other friend, we hit a little bump at one point but I think we were okay after that. I miss a lot of my other friends too. I miss my mom, my dad. But most of all… I miss pancakes." We both started to laugh.
"I miss my older brother." He said. "I miss my mom and my dad too. I miss my friends. And I miss my dog. I can't believe they're gone." He sighed. We leaned back and looked up at the stars. I can't believe it either. I thought.
We lied down on the ground using the log as a head rest. After a while of silence I started to fall asleep. My eyes slowly closed and I drifted off.
I woke up in my bed on the second floor of our new home. Wait, how did i get here? I was outside with Devan, wasn't I? I went down the ladder. It was still dark out but I went over to one of the tables and sat down. I tucked my legs up onto the chair with me. Really missing those pancakes right now.
I heard footsteps behind me. It was Bellamy, he sat across the table from me. "Bet you miss coffee right about now."
"Pancakes." I mumbled.
"Hmm?"
"I miss pancakes." I said in a half sleepy-half careless voice.
"Look." He said. "I'm sorry, about what happened yesterday."
"It's fine." I said. "Doesn't matter anymore."
"Carly. Come on."
"I don't mean it like that Bellamy. I'm serious, I'm over it. I'm over this bull shit, all the lies all the constant drama. And I'm over you, Bellamy." I looked him dead in the eye when I told him that. I got up and grabbed some strawberries we had and put them into one of the containers we used for bowls, then returned to my seat.
Someone quickly went down the ladder and started to search for something. "Have you guys seen mark?"
"No." We both said in unison.
"Well no one has, not since yesterday, if he left he would have been back by now." He sounded really worried.
"Come on lets check outside." I said. We all made our way outside. It was still dark out but there was some light from the last of the moon and some of the sun that was coming up.
We walked around in different directions for a few minutes before I heard a scream. I ran to where it was coming from. "Oh my god." I said.
