Two Months Later
Haruhi was packing her lunch for work when the phone rang. She paused and picked up the phone.Haruhi: Hello? Huh? Wait- what do you mean you can't come?! Death in the family...? W-wait, an ant doesn't count! Look I-I really need- hey- hello? AGH! *puts the phone down* Geez...
Kaoru: What happened?
Haruhi: My babysitter just canceled... and since Mei has classes today I need you two to watch Shiromi while I'm at work, can you do that?
Hikaru: Oh no problem.
Haruhi raised her eyebrow at him.
Kaoru: Haruhi, settle, we've got this.
Haruhi: *sigh* Okay, I'll be back by four o'clock. Please take good care of her...
Kaoru: I promise she'll be fine...
Haruhi trusted Kaoru more for certain reasons regarding his pregnancy but Hikaru was upset that he couldn't be trusted. First they try to hide Kaoru and his baby and then they say they can't trust him? Still, Hikaru kept cool, repeating that it would be better for Kaoru in his head. He made it a goal for himself that he had to give Kaoru as much love as possible, and not make the same mistake as a year ago. And, try to be friends with Haruhi again. He would love to complete both, but he should probably take care of them one at a time.
Kaoru: Hikaru? Are you alright?
Hikaru opened his eyes which immediately fixed on Kaoru's slightly swollen stomach.
Hikaru: O-oh yeah I'm fine...
Kaoru: Okay...
Kaoru walked upstairs to finish unpacking. Hikaru looked down, guilt filling him to the upmost extent. Not only had he let one of his closest friends handle her first two months of parenthood on her own, lonely, scared and hurt. But he had also scared Kaoru enough to not want to tell him about their baby.
Hikaru felt himself begin to cry, he had messed up so bad, there was no way he could make up for it, not for something so cruel. More tears began to fall, he could try to help Haruhi, give Kaoru as much love as he possibly could, Kaoru still wouldn't trust him, Haruhi would never forgive him, he would still be the one who left one of the most caring people he had ever met, alone feeling like nobody loved her, like she had nothing.
Now, because of his actions, he may never see his son or daughter, he may never see Haruhi again after college. Kaoru may never trust him again, he was now sobbing, his fingers digging into his orange hair. Hikaru used to think that if he could go back in time to tell his past self anything, it would be to trust other people, because he was about to meet great friends who he would love his heart out.
But now, he would go back and tell him to be there for Haruhi, don't listen to Tamaki, let both Haruhi and Kaoru know that someone loves them, and that they aren't alone.
Later
Haruhi walked through the door exhausted. It was five fifteen which meant she was more than an hour home late.Kaoru: Hi Haruhi, How was work?
Haruhi groaned.
Haruhi: Well a majority of the printers were broken and for some reason there was construction going on and somebody thought it would be a great idea to turn the fire sprinklers on!
Kaoru: "Ooh, that's why her hair and cloths look wet..." I'm sorry about that...
Haruhi: It's fine... I just need some rest, besides I ought to get used to these kinds of days... anyway how was Shiromi?
Kaoru: Really quiet actually...
Haruhi: Really? Well she is quiet when she wants to be...
Kaoru: Yeah but, Hikaru was acting weird earlier...
Haruhi set her bag down and tilted her head at him.
Haruhi: How so?
Kaoru: He, looked like he was crying earlier, and he looked really depressed the whole day... it's not really like him...
Haruhi: Really... why do you think that is...?
Kaoru: I-I don't know... do you think he knows...? About the baby...?
Haruhi shrugged.
Haruhi: I'm not sure... Anyway I'm way too tired to make anything so I just got some take out if you guys are cool with it...
Kaoru: That's alright, honestly I feel like I'm literally able to eat anything and enjoy it, like, even if it's something like raw chicken or vinegar, did you experience that when you were pregnant..?
Haruhi: Ugh, don't even get me started...
Kaoru: I'm just going to take that as a yes...
Later
Haruhi walked upstairs and into her room picking Shiromi up.Haruhi: Hi sweetheart...
Shiromi: *coo*
Haruhi gently kissed Shiromi on the forehead. Then she spotted a picture of her mom and dad in her drawer. Haruhi closed the door not wanting to look at it, but she was already crying. She never blamed her dad for kicking her out, after all it was her fault. But then, what does her mother think of her now...? Haruhi gave slightly labored breaths as tears continued to fall from her eyes.
Haruhi: I'm sorry... I'm sorry... Mom, dad I'm so sorry...
Haruhi broke into quiet sobs, her parents were disappointed in her, disgusted by her, hated her, and it was all her fault. Haruhi should have stayed far away from the music room, but then... she wouldn't have her Shiromi... the one thing that brings her joy in life, would have never existed if she had stayed away.
So she had the choice, would she rather keep her friends, parents, her boyfriend Tamaki and have Shiromi never exist. Or, she could keep everything the way it is, have nobody, but her baby. Haruhi opened her eyes to look at the small baby in her arms. Shiromi's violet eyes stared up at her mother in wonder, cooing and smiling softly.
Haruhi managed a small smile for her baby girl, tears still falling from her eyes. Nothing was going to change, she couldn't change the past, and she would never give up her daughter. No matter the cost.
