Eclair was relieved that she was having a baby, her only real concern is if it's a boy or not. If she did have a boy, Tamaki's family probably wouldn't care about Shiromi and would leave her and her mother alone, even if Shiromi and Tamaki are biologically related.
Eclair still hoped to meet up with Haruhi sometime, get to know her better, maybe ask if she could use any help. Tamaki however was silent during the entire appointment, and drive back.
When they got home Eclair walked into the house, Eclair tried to joke to cheer him up, even though it emotionally hurt for a moment.
Eclair: This is good right? And if it's a boy, you'll never have to worry about being in close proximity to me ever again!
Tamaki however was still silent. Eclair frowned at him.
Eclair: You know, sentences like that usually make you smile at least. Something's wrong, what is it?
Tamaki finally spoke, and Eclair lost her voice.
Tamaki: Why was there a DNA test in your drawer...?
Eclair looked down. Tamaki looked at her, frowning.
Tamaki: And don't lie to me, I want answers, and I want you to be honest with me... a—am I really this girl's father...?
Eclair looked down.
Eclair: Y—... Yes Tamaki... you are...
Tamaki looked at her, now seeming a little angry.
Tamaki: Then why didn't you tell me?
Eclair looked down. Tamaki got more upset.
Tamaki: I need an answer Eclair! Why didn't you tell me I'm this girl's father?!
Eclair's face got covered in shadow.
Eclair: You know who the mother is don't you...?
Tamaki shook his head, he didn't think about it as he was still upset with Eclair.
Eclair: You really don't want to try connecting the dots yourself first...?
Tamaki responded angrily.
Tamaki: Eclair, answer my question!
Eclair looked at him as she finally yelled back. The words piercing his heart.
Eclair: What was I supposed to do? Let her potentially get taken away from Haruhi and make the poor woman suffer more?! She's gone trough enough already! I didn't want to cause her any more pain and possibly push her to a breaking point by prompting your family to take her daughter!
Tamaki stood still, that familiar name echoing around his head.
Tamaki: H—Haruhi...?
Eclair: Why do you sound surprised?! She's the girl's mother!
Tamaki's eyes widened, as the realization began to sink in, guilt and regret filled his eyes.
Tamaki: S—so, she was...? Sh—she never...?
Eclair: Never cheated on you, if you don't mind me finishing your sentence, smart guy...
Tamaki: B—but that can't be possible! I swear I never—!
As Tamaki said that he finally remembered. Hosting one of the clubs usual parties, although that time he and Haruhi seemed much more close than usual. He remembered he led her to a room, they kissed, started to—... and then—...
Tamaki shut down, he suddenly remembered the day he and everyone else learned Haruhi was pregnant, then he remembered telling everyone she'd cheated on him, he broke up with her, treated her poorly, even when the host club was in session, ignoring her, glaring at her, and even making backhanded and hurtful comments to her face.
Tamaki also remembered seeing someone corner her in school and hit her, and the image of Haruhi crying and pleading for help and for them to stop was welded into his brain.
Tamaki remembered how students would yell at her, mock her, even hit her whenever the teacher wasn't looking.
Then he remembered that ever since the day Tamaki broke up with her, Haruhi would look more tired, dirty and malnourished. Like she was homeless, which Tamaki learned later, she was.
Then the moment he saw her in the bathroom, crying, with cuts all over her arms, some deep ones caused by the other students, but most of them she put there herself.
Tamaki remembered loosing it with her, demanding to know what she was so upset about compared to how hurt he was. Haruhi tried not to listen, but she was shaking and crying, the words clearly getting to her, and rapidly pushing her over the edge.
That's when she yelled back and caused him to stop. "FINE THEN! I'LL JUST GO DIE! THAT'S WHAT YOU WANT RIGHT?! WILL THAT MAKE YOU HAPPY?!"
Tamaki finally stopped yelling at her and just shook his head, saying she can die if she wants, but that won't make him happy.
Tamaki finally remembered the graduation ceremony, and how he saw Haruhi break down after she walked off stage, knowing she had nobody who loved her anymore.
Tamaki's eyes filled with tears, how could he do that to her...? He thought he loved her! And to think he actually saw Haruhi cutting herself and considering suicide and he still kept hurting her, and abandoning his daughter, and even staying passive when he saw students HITTING her, when he knew that she was pregnant with his child...! Hikaru was right... Haruhi was right... Mei was right... he was a horrible person! Tamaki looked up at Eclair.
Tamaki: Y—you said you hid it for their sake...?
Eclair responded calmly.
Eclair: Yes I did, I knew if you're family was aware of Shiromi's connection to you, they might take her away from her mother... and we both know Haruhi probably wouldn't be able to handle that final straw... That's why I wanted to have an heir with you so quickly, because if we had an heir, it wouldn't matter that you were her father. And they wouldn't have a reason to take her away...
Eclair started to walk out of the room, knowing she should probably leave Tamaki to process this.
Eclair: Go and apologize to Haruhi if you wish, but don't let any more pain to come to her, if you have a brain, you'd know why.
Tamaki made the decision quickly, he had to make it up to Haruhi, the more determined he felt about this, the more he realized he still loved Haruhi.
Tamaki: "But if I loved her why would I do that to her?!"
Tamaki quickly grabbed the phone number in the file and called it, thinking it was the doctor he planned to ask them for Haruhi's new number, as she'd changed it. He immediately realized he didn't have to go through that process, as the person picked up the phone.
~Haruhi: Hello?
Tamaki responded quickly, noticing how happy he was to hear her voice again.
Tamaki: Haruhi! I need to talk to you!
The other line was silent for almost a minute. Then he heard Haruhi hang up, she probably wasn't expecting him to call her. So he wasn't surprised, at least he had her number so he could call her back... but now there was a new determination, along with having to make it up to Haruhi, he had to meet his daughter!
