The next morning I had woken up on the couch. I rubbed my eyes, letting out a loud yawn. I looked around the living room, noticing Deon had been on another area of the couch, singing along to the theme song of Sponge Bob. He looked at me when he realized I was awake. "Hey sis," he said, turning his attention back to the tv.

"Where's mom?" I asked him.

"At work,"

"When did she leave?"

"Way earlier. It's 11:30 now Dj," he told me.

I looked at the clock on the wall, shaking my head. My sleeping schedule was so off. I got all the way up, getting ready to go upstairs and into my room.

"Mom said I could go to the party later, only if you went along," Deon called out to me. I stopped dead in my tracks. Irritation flooded my brain.

"Doesn't she know Jayon is going to be there?" I question.

"No, if I told her Jayon was there she wouldn't have let me go. Especially after the talk you and her had about him yesterday,"

"You were eavesdropping again? Really Deon?" I ask loudly.

"Come on now Dj, this shouldn't be new to you, just come."

"No Deon," I say, continuing to walk up the stairs. "Why the hell should I have to go to a children's party with you? She should trust you enough,"

"Because the party starts at 7:30 and ends at midnight. Jasmine told Adrian that adults would be there earlier to celebrate with her, but after they left around 5, she was gonna get it set up for teens to come,"

"Children," I correct him. "You all aren't teenagers. What could you possibly be doing at 7:30 to 12 midnight? Playing video games? Telling scary stories?" I laugh.

"Mom said the same thing, she told me that was an inappropriate time for kids our ages to be partying. I don't know why it's going to be late but Amber said it was going to be rememberable."

"Ugh," I began. "I don't feel like attending some party that Jayon will clearly be chaperoning, this is ridiculous."

"Well tell mom that, I rather go by myself anyways,"

"I'm sure you would Deon," I say to him. "But I can't even call mom. I don't have a damn phone that works and I don't feel like searching for the house phone,"

"All I hear from you is complaining. Just get ready to leave with me at 7:30 and shut up,"

"Deon I swear to god I will pun-"

The doorbell rings, and I'm cut off by what I was about to say. I give him an eye roll and walk to the door, peeping out of the peephole.
"It's Amber!" She chimed in front of the door. I opened it, watching her step inside with a smile.

"Hey bestie," she said.

"Hey Amber, I was actually just about to go upstairs to brush my teeth," I say turning my back towards her and heading up the stairs.

"Well, I figured since Adrian and Deon were going to a party today, that we should," I heard her say as she followed behind me.

"She can't, she's taking me to that party me and Adrian are going too," Deon cuts in, making Amber stare at him angrily. "Like Hell she is! Jayon is going to be at that party, we're going somewhere he's not,"

"I don't think so," Deon tells her, evilly smiling. I continue to walk up the stairs. I didn't have the energy to jump into their conversation.

"Dj!" Amber calls behind me, but I ignore her.
My morning was already starting off with chaos.
