Sloane's POV
Kai took her anger out on the room to say the least. Khalil's clothes were all over the place and diapers had been split in half. The crib we work hard to build was damn near dismantled with Khalil laying in the middle of the chaos. Emerald scooped the baby up checking to see if he was ok. There wasn't a scratch on him but it seemed like he was almost in and out of consciousness. His breathing was a little shallow as She held him.
"We are taking him to the hospital." I began to look for something to keep him warm. Emerald found a blanket and began wrapping him up. This was a parents worst fear. Lord knows what Kai could have done to him. Emerald's pushed passed and I could tell that she blamed me for it all. There is no way in hell Kai is going to get away with physically hurting my child to fulfill her childish fantasies.
"Emerald just listen to me." I ran after her grabbing the keys. Even if she take some time to listen to me I don't know what I would say. There was no time to catch an elevator so we made our way down the steps. I thought of ways to explain myself on the way down but I still couldn't come up with anything worth saying.
"Just get in the truck! We will deal with it later'" I yelled spotting Kai's car in the garage. I sped off in the direction of the hospital catching a glimpse of a somewhat distraught Kai.
We had been in the hospital for two hours before anyone came to speak to us. When we were placed in the room we told the story over and over.
"So the baby wasn't in your care?" The doctor asked once again.
"We had a club opening..." I zoned out when she went through the nights events. Finally they let us know that the baby was under an adult strength sedative. As soon as the words slipped out of the doctors mouth I knew that's bitch Kai had to go.
"What do you mean? He wasn't in our care so... I... What do you mean?" Emerald repeated it over and over.
"He looks to be about 3 or 4 months so we are going to keep him over night. He is going to be just fine. " He didn't say anything about child protective services which was a plus.
"Is that all you can give us?" The doctor assured us that he was doing all he could.
"You would me suprised how much this happens. Some baby sitters just aren't equipped to handle a screaming baby."As soon as he closed the door I was met with a punch that took the air out of our lungs.
"How could I not think to check in him." Her punch's grew softer and her sobs grew harder. There was too much going on to even think.
"He didn't cry. All that time Sloane he didn't even...What is wrong with me." I didn't want her to start doubting herself as a mother.
"You had no idea." I grabbed while they took the baby to another room. I admit I couldn't thing of anything to say to make her stop crying. When the nurse popped in to let us know that we can follow her to Khalil Emerald immediately grabbed my hand. When we got to the colorful room Khalil smiled like nothing ever happened.
"Baby it's not your fault." I thought of my next steps to rectify the situation.
"At least he is ok. I'll never let you out of my sight again." Emerald said playing with Khalil's feet. I couldn't enjoy the moment when the nurse came back yet again.
"Excuse me, there is a Mr... A Mr. Robbins on the phone for you." She stammered before walking a way. The look of confusion on my face must have thrown her for a loop.
"Robbins?" I looked at Emerald who instantly slipped back in to that state of fury. All of a sudden it hit me.
"Deontay must have really lost his fucking mind." I joined her in her fit of rage. I stormed out of the room, damn near jogging to the waiting area.
"Sloane." Emerald ran behind me. She pulled me back by the end of my now half buttoned dress shirt.
"There is no way that him calling the hospital that our four mom old son is in just hours after one of his minions sedates him is coincidental." She got the hint that there was no calming me down. Once I snatched away from her and got to the phone I was met with 100 and 1 excuses.
"I would never. I'm not in the business of hurting kids especially Emerald's..."
"Keep her name out of the conversation or I'll be in the next thing smoking just to knock ya head off your shoulders. You have got some fucking nerve calling here." I was cut off.
"She called me." I was stopped in my tracks. I didn't want to sound crazy so I simply hung up the phone. I slightly prolonged my trip back to the room just because I didn't know how I was going to react when I saw her.
"You called him?" I tried to convince myself that I was dreaming or that none of this was happened but I knew I was wrong.
"I needed to know if he sent her. If he had anything to do with this girl going off the fucking rocker." She walked closer to the corner I occupied.
"You are going to make me permanently remove him from your life. I got that so don't worry." I pointed in the direction of the phone. I paced back and forth looking at the baby and her. I couldn't fathom why he still needed to be in our lives and why we were continuing to let him. It everything in me not to ask her what the problem is. We were damn near three years in and if she still had a thing from him I needed to know. Or did I?
"I shouldn't have... I'm sorry babe. It's just that when ever something goes wrong it's because of him." She wasn't completely wrong.
"Just forget it. We need to focus on the baby. Focus on us." It was safe to say that I was tired. Tired of being jealous, tired of looking over my shoulder, and damn sure tired of the past.
"I'm tired of having these conversations." I mumbled under my breath. I could tell she heard me by the way she stopped moving. I sat down staring across the room at my son.
I started to think how it would be if we were married and this happened. Someone still poking their head in every five seconds. It wasn't long before I thought about the show being in the other foot. In this case, do know what it's like to have love for some one you can't touch.
Hospital staff and even a police officer flowed in and out of the room. We told the story once more and put the issue in the hands of the law which was a different level of weird.
A few hours had last when we could finally alone with silence filling the room.
"Can you stop." Emerald finally spoke.
"Stop what?" I rolled my eyes because I felt the argument brewing.
"Being mad at me." Having a women that can take care of herself isn't a bad thing. However, she shouldn't have you to deal with Deontay after this.
