Emerald's POV
I didn't even think I was that tired but I was wrong. Sloane woke me up to his idea of the perfect dinner. I loved him even more that he tried.
"Close your eyes." He said helping my sleep deprived body out of the bed. I looked at him like he was crazy before he told me to trust him.
"And walk down the steps babe?" I could see myself rolling my ankle if not busting my ass.
"I got you." I closed my eyes feeling around me ever chance I got. Im not always too fond of surprises especially when I first wake up.
"Step down." He lead me down the stairs case. I tried not to freak out but I did know what was coming.
"I know you are hungry." I didn't know what to say so all I could do was look up at him and smile.
"That wasn't so bad right?" He used his arms to wrap me, holding me until I gasped for air.
"We haven't had a meal, like a real one in a while so..." he walked me towards the table. The baby sat at the head of our little table making everything perfect. He insisted on feeding Khalil while I twirled the pasta on my fork.
Deontay's POV
I half way listened to her go on and on about information I already knew.
"April or June." She said with confidence. There was an entire month in between so I wasn't too sure that she was sure.
"What makes you say that." I blew the smoke from my blunt in the air. I can admit that my smoking habits escalated and an alarming rate but it was the only thing that helped.
"We speak from time to time." She our her hair behind her ear while speaking.
"Really? Consistently?" My line of questioning grew more extensive. Time to time what the hell could that mean?
"Well I mean..." This was the point of the conversation I dreaded. She talked her way in to something she knows she won't be able to get out of.
"Once a week. Once a day? A few times this month what is it?" She moved away from me causing the sheets to drift towards her side. If Emerald was taking calls from people from her past I needed to know.
"Yeah a few times this month I guess." She folded her arms as if she wanted to know why I gave a fuck.
"I gotta go to work." She said with an attitude. The fact that I was thinking about the situation probably ticked her off.
"Lacey hold up." I grabbed the pair of basket ball shorts that were a long way from where the started.
I never though that I would be able to talk to Lacey let alone be doing what ever this is. She started the shower as soon as I entered the bathroom.
"I'm sorry Lace. I..." She slipped out of what little clothes she had on completely ignoring me.
"Are you listening to me?" I watched her lather herself in body wash.
"Why should I. You aren't sorry and you still love her." She was correct. I couldn't formulate a sentence that would help me in this situation.
"6 months. I went against everything and gave you 6 months even though I knew..." she stopped and let the water run over her body. I waited for her to finish her thoughts because I didn't know what was coming next.
"It's been what 4 or 5 years since Ice Died and she left?" She looked T me for confirmation. That was about right. I leaned on the counter thinking about how soon April or June is.
I watched her scrub her body. After Emerald had Sloane's baby I was in the worst possible place. Coming in contact with Lacey mad me feel better but it was never the same. I learned so much about her and it almost felt like I could love her. We didn't start off as a friends with benefit situation but just friends. Lunches and movies put us in the place we are in now. When we did start fucking it sort of just happened. She trusted me enough to give herself to me after a ton of false starts and everything was fine. Until E came to my door. Being within arms length of her made me want to throw what ever this thing is with Lacey away. But when Emerald left I realized how important Lacey could be.
"She is getting married. If I can get over it so can you." Her dripping body emerged from the glass shower. I snatched her towel before she could just for an excuse to touch her. She let me wrap her up even though I could tell she was over the situation.
"You are right." I whispered. It was going to be an uphill battle but if I couldn't get her back I was going to have to move on. The part that hurts the most is that she gave birth to another mans first son. It all could have been mine if I just treated her right.
Lacey touching my face pulled me out of my deep thoughts. I could have looked at her for hours when our eyes met.
"I am going to be late." I pulled her back to me when she tried to storm off. What was supposed to be a simple kiss turned in to her towel hitting the floor. I loved the feeling of her hands creeping up my neck as she pressed in to me.
"30 minutes." I begged her knowing that she had to be out of the door in 30 minutes to be remotely on time.
"Deontay." She said considering. I hated when she worked night shifts but I couldn't fight it. I scrolled through my phone knowing that I was going to put these young niggas in their place.
"You have to stop." One of our biggest arguments was what I did for a living. It paid my billed and hers sometimes so doing any thing different was out of the question. She sacked her teeth st the fact that I didn't respond.
Lacey grabbed her over night bag which let me know she wasn't coming back tonight.
"Really?" I slid the phone on the night stand.
"I think it's best if I stayed at my spot for a couple days." I couldn't stop myself from starting an argument.
"For fucking what Lacey? What now?" I clasped my hands together giving her my attention.
"I'm dont even feel like it Deontay." She took a few more steps out of the bedroom.
"What the fuck is your problem E... Lacey." I caught myself. I was going to call her E and that would have led to complete destruction.
"I can't be your place holder forever." She shrugged be shoulders.
"You know you are more than that to me by now." I followed her.
"Let's be honest we don't know what this is yet and it confuses us both." We established that when sit downs became dates. She wanted a grand gesture that I wasn't ready to provide.
" I just need to know that this is something and not a joke." She didn't even say good bye when she slammed the door.
