Sloane's POV

I woke up and reached out only to grab nothing. The warm body I was so used to wasn't there. I grabbed my phone and there wasn't a sing notification from her. The day was gone according to the time. I walked through the condo to find her scrolling through her phone in the living room.

"He got so big." My mother rounded the corner. Her eyes almost popped out of her head.
"Big 1 in about 2 months." She continued. I went in to the kitchen for something to drink before joining Emerald. The first words to come to my head were what the fuck but I kept my cool.

"How did you sleep?" I kissed her softly while sliding next to her. She kissed me back but didn't respond right away.

"She was outside when I woke up." She snuggled up to me giving me the puppy do eyes. We agreed that parents were off limits before drifting off. "We are parents now. That should be our focus" were the last parts of the conversation that I remembered. She knew I was irritated by the way I watched my mother play with the baby. She put her have on my leg as it bounced.

"How did she know where..." she shrugged her shoulders while I finished my sentence.

"I have been trying to figure that out." Emerald was bold but not bold enough to ask what the hell she was doing here.

"I have ears." She said still baby talking. Emerald and I sat waiting for her explanation. Still holding the baby she took a deep breath.

"I'm too damn old to be a step mother to a child that your father made with some one a fraction of my age." I stood up to walk away before she even finished her sentence. I walked over to her removing my child from her hands.

"You and my father taught me a lot of things. You thought me how to to be a man. How to work for what I have. Believe it or not you even taught me how to love. More importantly the importance of education." Having a teacher for a mother was challenging but inspiring. She let me know that playing ball or being a block boy was the only way out.

"My father. He taught me how to prey on the weak. How to tell when people are lying. Now I realize the he used what he taught me on you." Emerald tried to walk away because she knew what was coming.

"You are weak and this proved it. I told you I didn't want to deal with it anymore more and I mean it." I rocked the baby.

"How dare you talk to me like that. Why don't you ever have sympathy for me Sloane?" She looked at me with tears forming in her eyes. The truth was I didn't know. I took the things my father taught me and applied it life daily but it was hard realizing that my mother was a just a joke to my father.

"You remember Bianca don't you?" She broke the silence in the room. I thought back to my mental little black book but the name didn't ring a bell.
"I do." Emerald spoke up. She folded her arms listening to what information my mother had up her sleeve.
"She is baby mama number one... Not only to Jase but to your ex as well." My neck almost snapped from how fast I turned to Emerald.

"The little girl Deontay has with Bianca is almost 4 so I guess she is just adding to the family." I watched Emerald add some numbers. She sat back in the couch letting me know there was a problem.

"I saw those pregnancy test. She... that means she had that baby while we were still together. If this is true." I was concerned that she even cared but I understood why.

"If? What do I have to lie for?" My mother stood still. She looked at Emerald as if she had committed the ultimate sin.

"Just because yo shit ain't together you just have to fuck up some one else's? You know what E can you give us a minute" I spoke for Emerald. I walked her halfway to the back before giving her the baby.

"You have gotta go. I told you to stay away from him and you didn't want to listen so I'm done." I walked to the door, opening it for her exit.

"I'm choosing my family over everything." I continued as mire and more things came to my mind.

"That's your best friend's ex girlfriend baby. Now you are a family." She laughed while gathering her things. The compilations if the relationship my fiancé and I share had never really been in the light. I was always ready for Deontay and his men to pop shit but my own mother was a different story.

"Deontay and I were done a long time before I fell in love with Sloane." Emerald pointed out from across the room. I wanted her to still love my mother as her own but it was obvious that it was over.

"I figured since he had that baby on you." My mother was on a thousand. Keeping an argument from breaking out was my number priority. I stood between them even I knew Emerald would never raise a hand to my mother. I pushed my mother closer to the door just before she started selling E and I out if our names.

"Go check in on your new step children." Emerald tried with all her might to hold her anger but she couldn't.

"I'm going home." She walked back to the master bedroom. She had already laid the baby down and started backing a bag.

"E stop." I grabbed her hands. Her blood boiled as her thoughts ran wild.

"I'll be back in 3 days." She yelled in my ear.

"You can't be serious." I threw her on the bed only for her to get back up at full speed.
