Chapter 24: You're the Mastermind?!

Laughing insanely, there stands Athena. Her normal outfit altered. She has a black a white shirt on and checkers jeans. She wears a black,red, and white scarf. "Ahhhh it's a pleasure to see you all again." She bows. "Well not you... You... You should have been dead." She pouts pointing at me.

"You're the Mastermind?!" Simple says completely shocked. "Ah yes if you didn't figure that out, I, Athena, am the mastermind!" She laughs. I realize she wasn't in the group when I saw everyone. My eyes widen as I look up at her. "Ah how does the despair feel? Good?" She asks tilting her head. "No." I say. "Ahahaha yes it does!" She laughs. Mononeko stands by the throne. "I swear you were dead!" Athena points at me. "I was but... They brought me back." I smile. "They...? You mean you saw those dead idiots?!" She growls. "Even her." I say. Mononeko tenses when I say her. "Oh... Her... You mean my friend? Jasmine?" She says. "Black hair and red eyes." I reply. "Yep! Jasmine took my place. We gave her a wig and color contacts." She says smiles. "You sick bastard..." Xeo mumbles. "Ahhh yes thank you!" She smiles. "So... You watched her die....?" Mango grips that stand. "Yep Yep Yep! We were gonna fake a death until Stiffy went and bonked her in the head!" Athena laughs. Her laughter sends chills up my spine. "Now! What is it with you guys and all your hope?" Athena sits down in her throne, crossing her legs, leaning on one arm. 

 We look at each other puzzled. "Why do we have so much hope...?" Swift finally asks. "I...I don't know... Maybe because we believe we can get out...?" Anna says. "Okay. I have a question for you..." I clench my hands into a fist. "Hmmm...? What's your question dear?" She tilts her head in curiosity. "...What did you do to Mononeko and Hope...?" I growl. "Oh! Them...?" She begins. "Well Mononeko here doesn't know his full story even though he read the book!" Athena smiles. "You see.... Mononeko here was an actual student. He was supposed to be one of you. Until I realized I needed someone to help run this. Watch over you and make you feel despair. The best canidate was him. Mamoru." I see Mononeko flinch at the name. "You see... My dear friend Monokuma decided to help me transform him into half cat. With the help of his masters, Monokuma successfully transformed him in a neko! We wiped his memory so he wouldn't remember his past. Boo hoo!" Athena pretends to cry at the last part. "Which means he forgot how much he loved Lily!" 

 I blush and clench my stand. "And... Hope...?" I growl. "You see... Mr.Monokuma has an AI at their school. A student created them and Monokuma forced the AI to change Hope into a computer AI. She was a student like you guys... Until of course we changed her." She smiles. We all stand in silence. "I want to know why our memories were wiped." Xeo growls. "Huh...? Well because then this would be no fun! No one would kill each other if they remembered how close everyone was! Plus the outside world is something you all want to forget." Athena says playing with Mononeko's hair. "Cat form please." She sighs. Mononeko glows red and turns into a pure white cat. His tail and ears still look the same but he's completely white. He jumps in her lap as she continues to pet him. "The... Outside...?" Simple begins. "Yes yes I'll explain that later. Let's talk about why the trial is in session?" Athena rolls her eyes. "Yes... The murder of Cheesy and Ender." I say looking at their pictures. "Yes yes... Who do you think killed them?" Athena tilts her head. "... Everything adds up against Lily.... No offense." Swift looks at me. "It's all a trick!" I say. 

 "Hmmm...?" Athena tilts her head. "You killed them." I say. "But how...?" She pouts and pulls Mononeko's ears. He transforms back to a human and his face is completely red. "Sorry dear." She smiles. Mononeko stands by the throne once more. I shake it off and continue. "The only person it could be IS you. You set me up to die. Because I have too much hope and not enough despair. You wanted me out of the picture so everyone could fall to despair. So you took two lives to try and take mine." I say. Athena stares at me before clapping. "Good Job Lily!" She smiles. "Huh...?" I begin, shocked she's admitting it. "Yes indeed I killed them both! Originally it was only Ender I planned to kill. But I guess Cheesy followed Ender and she saw everything go down." She begins to explain. "Once I saw Cheesy she begged that she'd keep it a secret. And I agreed. But two can't keep a secret unless one of them is dead." She smiles insanely. I look over to see Swift crying. "You... Killed... Cheesy..." She growls. "Yes indeed! But she should learn to mind her own business!" She smiles.

 "Now it's time to vote! If you vote for me, I execute myself and you all can be set free. You vote Lily, she will be killed and you all live happily here." Athena smiles. "Why would we do that...? It's not happy here and we'd never kill Lily for that!" Mango says. "Oh...? If you saw the outside world you would!" A screen flickers on, revealing the outside world. The sky is red. Stuffed bears are running around causing chaos. "You see....? This is the world created by my fellow workers at Hope's Peak Academy." Athena says. "Chaos and Despair everywhere. You were placed here to keep everyone alive. And repopulate." Athena says. "But if you really want to face the outside... Be my guest." Athena says.

 Everyone begins to mumble. "Maybe she's right.. The outside does look bad.." Anna mumbles. "I don't think we'd last long enough outside..." Mango mumbles, holding her head. "We're goners if we go out there..." Swift says. "I don't want to die..." Simple says. "This isn't good." Xeo sighs. Everyone's falling into her trap! I look around at everyone. "We need to have more Hope." I growl. Everyone stares at me as I look at everyone. "Don't you at least want to try and face the outside? Yes it's dangerous. Yes it's filled with despair. But we all have enough hope to live on. And we can warn survivors. We're strong enough to face that world." I say. One by one, everyone walks by my side. "No...No! Are you all idiots?! The outside is deadly!" Athena yells. "I thought you all wanted hope? There will be lots and lots of it here! Right Mononeko?!" Athena looks at him. He walks over to my side, shaking his head. "So Athena. It's time to vote right?" I smirk. "Athena... We all vote that YOU are in fact the murder of Ender and Cheesy!" I point. 

 The slot machine goes off and lands on a chibi of Athena. Guilty flashes on screen.

 She at a loss for words. "I... You... You all voted for me..." She begins. "You all want to go outside... Even you..." She points at Mononeko. "You've witnessed it first hand... And you STILL want to go out...?" She begins hysterical laughing. "Fine! I hope I get the most Despair filled execution ever created!" She smashes the button laughing.

"Athena has been found guilty! Now loading execution!" 

Despair for our Mastermind

 Athena can be seen trapped in a dead end by creepers. Just like Declan was. The explode and in an instant she face-first in the wall. She's then being surrounded by zombies when suddenly the TARDIS flattens her. She is then transported in a piano recital. She plays "Insanity" perfectly until she purposely messes up a note, falling backwards into a spike pit. She's strapped to a chair being forced to draw thumbnails. She's suddenly shocked by the computer. She looks like she's enjoying this execution to much... She is then transported and is stuck. Mononeko begins coming at her slowly with an axe. She's smiling. 

About.

Dying? 

No... She's smiling about feeling despair...

 He slice her skull open, the axe getting stuck in her skull, ending her execution. Mononeko walks over to us as Athena is transported back out of the game, laughing insanely.
