A good day is seen by the morning.
I think there is an expression like that, or something close to it and if I'd judge the rest of the day by this morning, the grinning lunatic that is grinning back in the mirror suggests that it's going to be amazing.
Today is the day I get to spend all of it with Devon. All freaking day. Well, not all of it, but you know what I mean.
I had been excited for this day ever since I saw his changed schedule. Blessed be our school for doing what they do. As Devon told me, they had been monitoring him for two weeks so they could see in which classes he fits best so they would give him those.
We didn't have to go through that since we had a test before we enrolled and from there we had been divided to different subjects, each to their appropriate ones. I didn't know that this applied to the students that would join later, but it seems it does. And I am very grateful for that.
Devon was fun to be around. I know, it's unbelievable, trust me, I do know and it's still weird when I admit it to myself, but it's true. He has mellowed down, as much as he allows himself, although I know he can do better, but I don't push it. He hasn't snapped at me for the whole week and I am not about to ruin my chance today. Today was a holiday for me.
Standing in front of my wardrobe, I stare at my clothes, raking my brain on what to wear. Why am I doing this, I don't know, but I had been in the mood to put an effort in dressing up since last night.
Stealing a quick glance at the clock and seeing that I don't have much time left, I pull out an orange hoodie (a nod at Devon, of course) and some dark jeans. I put my hair into low pigtails pulled to the front so I can put the hood up as I walk to school.
"Have a great day darling, we are in a hurry!"-mom shouts from the entrance downstairs.
"Bye!-I yell back before I hear the front door close behind.
Satisfied with my look (not that it's something spectacular), I grab my backpack and run down the stairs. Putting on my black boots that go with my black coat and locking the door behind me, I practically skip the steps of the porch.
Pulling my hoodie up and burying my hands in my pockets, a humming sound comes from my mouth as I make my way down the pavement.
"It's morning. You can't be that happy."
I whirl around at an alarming speed, my mind dazing for a moment in the process, but I don't let myself focus on it because behind me is the one person I least expected.
"Is it really you or am I not awake enough?"-I smile up at Devon. He smirks back as he nods towards me.
"I see you copying my look now. What happened, it warmed up on you?"-he asks, amusement lacing his voice.
"Well, since you love it so much, I thought I'd give it a try."-I say with a shrug as he comes beside me and we start walking towards school.
"And what's next? Gender change because I inspire you?" I laugh out loud at his suggestion.
"No, that's not an option. And even if it was, there's no way I can compete with you on that subject. You nail it like a pro."-I tell him with a wink, making him shake his head with a half smile playing on his lips.
"Flattering me, complimenting me... I think you have a hidden agenda."-he says throwing me a look.
"Oh, cut it out."-I nudge his side with my shoulder, which by the way, only reaches just above his elbow. "The real mystery here is why are you out these early, on foot."
