Surprises are freaking dangerous.
Especially at night. Especially in a dark room. Especially when you're alone. Okay, let's agree, they are a terrible and not so pleasant thing in general. I don't know who came up with them or who did it first, but I was cursing them even if they're long gone.
Since you have no idea what I'm talking about, let me rewind a bit, before I almost had a heart attack that is. Before I almost left this earth in the most embarrassing, stupid way.
Like every high schooler (if this is not you, then I applaud you for it), Saturdays are usually spent mopping around and doing some homework. The word "some" is used very loosely here, might I add. So, when the clock reaches 7-8 pm, it's time to call it a night and put the school work aside while giving priority to other things.
My parents usually have the same sleeping schedule. Since they like keeping the tempo, even on weekends they go to sleep at 9pm, 10 being the latest. And this period, for me on Saturdays, is my movie time. I usually go for 2 movies in one sitting, but this depends on my mood and the time I had woken up that day. Since today I woke up at almost midday, 9 o'clock was still early for me.
So, I spent an hour looking for a movie (looking at trailers to find something interesting), then another half an hour to download a movie, so at 10 tops I'd be ready to sit and enjoy my free time.
Now, let me start by saying that I love movies. They are an escape and a relaxation for the brain. But, since my brain doesn't like to rest, I tend to search for films that put my mind into more pressure. Comedies, rom-coms, chick flicks are all fun and sweet and interesting, but tonight I was more in a mood of thrillers and actions. That's why I settled for a horror -thriller. Wrong choice people. For tonight at least.
The description of it said that the horror title was more because of the gross scenes, but that wasn't true because the movie had some pretty good jump scare scenes all in all. Any other night I would have appreciated them and maybe, just maybe, curse the false description. That was not happening tonight.
I have teased tonight and what happened just a few moments ago a lot and I bet you're mind must be going crazy as to what happened. Let me put you at rest.
So, as I was sat on my bed, my laptop beside me and a bowl of chips on the other side, I was an hour deep into the movie when the creepy music started playing. Any movie fanatic knows that that's the moment when a scene is about to take a turn for the worst and I, being the one that knew of this, prepared myself for whatever that was about to come on screen.
What I hadn't prepared myself for however, was a certain person suddenly materializing in my room, stepping out of the mist and causing me to jump backwards, landing flat on the ground on my butt. I was lucky that my parents slept bellow and that their room was down the hallway, because the scream that left my mouth would have, for sure, woken them up if they were any closer.
As for the person that appeared from out of nowhere in my room, with his back to me? Yup, Devon, the demon himself.
It took me a good minute, maybe two, for me to compose myself, and calm my poor heart that was about to flip out of my ribcage. Sitting on the floor, since I doubted my legs could hold my whole body, I glare at the one that I called my best friend.
"What the actual hell Devon?"-I hiss at him, my voice coming more breathless due to the lack of air my lungs had. "You scared me out of my damn mind! You can't just..."-my words die down when he turns around. I was going to tell him that he can't just come into my room like this, but the expression on his face made me stop.
He was angry, really angry. The bedside lamp that illuminated my room cast a light onto his sharp features, his dark eyes that were narrowed at the floor and his clamped down jaw. Correction, he wasn't angry, he was pissed, enraged and it radiated from him in waves.
