I want you to say goodbye: Chapter five

Chris and I woke up at the same time and went to get some vegan friendly muffins and tea. I was really quiet as we ate. My nerves were all over the place and I was beyond nervous to perform on stage today.

"Don't be worried, lovely. Here's all you have to do: make eye contact with the audience, put your heart into your singing, and relax. I know you'll do great and I'll be backstage watching. Trust me, you'll do amazing, baby." Chris said reassuringly and kissed me softly.

"Thanks, babe. That does make me feel better. It's just that I've always wanted to do this, even though it's not even all that big of a deal, it still means a ton to me." I said, while playing with Chris' fingers as we drank our tea. I'd be playing right after I worked at the merch stand, so I wouldn't really have time to prepare too much.

When Chris and I got back to Warped he had to go get ready for his own performance so he left with the other guys. I changed my clothes again into a black off-the-shoulder Ramones shirt, dark colored shorts, and a pair of white Doc Martins, paired with some rings and bracelets. I left to go work at the merch tent and later on, Hayley texted telling me to start heading to the stage.

Eagerly and nervously, I made my way to the Tilly's stage and spotted Hayley backstage.

"Hey! You ready?" Hayley asked as I approached her.

"Ready enough," I said smiling cheekily, "Thanks again so much, you don't understand how much this means to me."

"Hey, I was a newbie too once and so I do understand how much it means. Just don't forget me when you're all big and famous. Your going to play one of your own songs, right?"

"Oh whatever, but I'll never forget you for this opportunity. And yeah." I replied. Playing one of my own written songs felt risky and I was terrified of getting a negative response from the crowd but I tried to remain chill.

(the song that Delilah is going to perform is actually a song by The Pretty Reckless. I'll put the song on the side.)

Hayley went out on the stage first to the screaming crowd and in a minute, she'd call for me to go out. I was shaking nervously and scratching at my hands. Then I felt a pair of cold hands grip onto my waist from behind and I jumped slightly, startled.

"Hello, beautiful. Nervous, eh?" Chris whispered into my ear. I sighed in relief.

"Oh hi. Yeah, pretty freakin' nervous. It's that obvious?" Before Chris could say anything, I heard Hayley speaking to the audience and then look over at me.

"Okay! So before I perform, my lovely friend Delilah is going to perform! She's absolutely amazing! Everyone give Delilah a warm welcome!" Hayley cheered into the microphone. I walked onto the stage smiling and waving to the cheering audience. Hayley gave me a short hug and handed me the microphone and then she hurried off backstage. I looked back at her and Chris and they both shot me supportive smiles. I smiled back and then directed my attention back to the audience.

"What's up you guys? I'm Delilah and go easy on me 'cause I'm a new to all this. So this is an original song by me called 'Hit Me Like A Man'," I said. The crowd cheered and I took a deep breath. Hayley had given her band the chords to my song, so I'd only be singing. After a moment, I started singing.

"I am strong, love is evil. It's a version of perversion, that is only for the lucky people. Take your time, and do with me what you will, I won't mind. You know I'm ill, you know I'm ill. So hit me like a man and love me like a woman. Buried and sad, look me in the eyes I want it. One will give you hell, one will give you heaven. Hit me like a man, love me like a woman..." I sang with all my heart. All my nervous feelings began to fade into nothing and I felt adrenaline running through me. I was getting very into my performance and giving it my all; swaying my hips, touching my thighs suggestively, and getting on my knees.
