"Jenny, can we talk?" Dallas asked, stepping out of the shadows. I jumped, startled. Why was he always doing that?

"Dally! You scared the shit out of me! Stop doing that!" I whisper shouted, trying not to wake any of the neighbors. A lot of them were very irritable people.

"Look, man, I'm really sorry. I shouldn't have walked away. I was just too scared about actually carin' about someone," he said, "You and Johnny are the only people I really care about." I stood there in shock. Had he really just said that?

"It's okay," I said, looking into his eyes. They lit up when I said this. I couldn't help smiling back. He smiled at me too, and I could tell that things might be alright.

He sat down on the front steps, pulling me with him. We sat like that for a few minutes in silence. It was peaceful, but as with everything, moments like those are fleeting.

"Wow. If I didn't know better, I'd think that the two a you made up," Two-Bit said from behind the screen door, breaking the silence. Dally and I both turned to look at him. He grinned at us like a little kid.

"Maybe we did," I said.

He raised his eyebrow at me, "For real this time?"

"Yeah, now go away," I said giggling. He turned to go, telling me to come inside soon before the wild animals ate me. I shook my head. He made even less sense than usual in the middle of the night.

Dallas stood up saying, "I'll walk you to school tomorrow, if you want.". I stood up as well.

"But you don't go to school," I stated.

He grinned, "There's no law sayin' that I can't walk my friend to school though."

"And if there was, we all know you'd ignore it anyways," I said as he turned to leave. I heard him softly chuckle before I went inside. I didn't have to worry about wild animals, but I was cold.
