The cold marble of the fountain numbed my legs as I perched there, staring out at the park. It had been almost a decade since Dally and I sat here. It was odd how the fountain had played such a huge part in our lives in the end. If it hadn't been here, Johnny and Dally might still be alive.
But, if I had been there, Dally might still be alive. He had lost everything he cared about the night Johnny died. If I had tried to work things out between us, he might have had something to live for. This thought haunts me, and I still cry when I remember.
In my mind, I see a shadowy memory. A group of teenage boys yelling at the police. The red and blue lights. And, the bloody body that lay on the ground. The night I lost the love of my life.
