"Wow, I can't believe we haven't gone out on a date in like, forever," Sirius complained. He slouched down further against the chocolate-colored basement wall.
Remus stopped strumming his guitar for a moment, "We're supposed to be writing, you know. I want to get this song released by Saturday," he stated. Saturday was the first day of Pride Month, which was also Sirius' favorite month of the year. Seeing as it was a song about accepting yourself, it would have been perfect. It was just going to be a single, and Sirius already made the cover art for it.
"Yeah, but still. I miss doing couple-y things," Sirius stated. He was lying on the floor, facing up, probably counting the ceiling tiles with his eyes.
Remus strummed his guitar, getting back into the song, "I promise to never change," he sung. He was just trying to get a feel for the lyrics, or else he wouldn't have opened his mouth, "I'm always going to be myself."
Sirius sat up and joined in. "Who cares what they say, that's not our battle to fight," he said. He was strumming his guitar as well. He gave Remus a smile.
"And I promise you," Remus smiled back at his boyfriend.
His hair was up in a ponytail, and wearing a jean jacket. He held the guitar, strumming it, and looked amazing, like a model in a photo shoot. "Oh, I promise you."
"To stay yourself is the only way to be," Remus and Sirius sang together, Sirius' voice overpowering Remus' in both volume and beauty, "And I promise you, oh, I promise you,"
"They aren't worth the tears, not the bloodshed and the pain," Sirius sang.
The two guitars played together for a moment, a few seconds at most. It wasn't as loud as their other songs. It wasn't really soft, either. It was just happy and warm.
"And I promise you."
"Oh, I promise you."
"You can fly past all this madness, you can fly to where it's safe." For Remus, he was safe in this house, his head in a book. For Sirius, it was riding on his bright red bike, down the highway. Safe didn't just mean secure in this song, it meant secure and happy.
"And I promise you."
"Oh, I promise you."
"The ones who matter most will fly by your side. The ones who matter most will never make you change." Remus recalled telling his parents about when he was dating Sirius. The only thing his dad questioned was when the wedding would be, and his mom wondered if they were eventually going to adopt a kid. They had just started dating at that point, so the answer to both was a shrug. "They'll never make you change."
"Never let them tell you to be someone else. Never let them make you change yourself. And most of all, never stop breathing, never stop the beating," They both sang along. Remus was originally weary about the lyrics but hearing them made him feel better.
"Your wings only fly when you let yourself use them," Sirius concluded the song with a final strum.
Remus looked over at him, and felt his lips turn up into a grin. "That was good."
"Yeah. It was," Sirius responded.
"I still do love the album, well, song's cover, by the way. Where'd you come up with the bird?" Remus asked.
