It's been a few days now since arriving here. Shirayuki's busy with her herbalist duties again. Obi's either guarding, following orders or hanging around people, often with me. And I've yet to get to my responsibilities as Zen ordered me to stay put for a whole week. It's to make sure my wounds are completely healed before I take on any training again.
It's sweet of him, but I feel kind of useless, so I still push myself to at least do exercises that don't stress my back and also help Shirayuki and Ryuu out. Shirayuki also cares for my wound by applying a special cream on it everyday. She says it'll make it heal faster and makes it less of a scar. I don't really mind if it's an evident scar. It's a price I'll happily pay again to protect what's important to me.
Obi and I have been meeting quite a lot the past few days. We'd go for a stroll, hang out in the gardens or sit in a tree and just chat. Sometimes he'd ask me to play my flute as he says he likes my playing. He also has this tendency to play with my hair when I sit next to him and he absolutely loves to tease me.
Leaning in on the fence, I breath in and out calmly, completely at peace as I look at the herb garden that layers downwards from where I am. There are many kinds of herbs growing on each layer and a simple stone staircase connects it all. The garden is lit up by little warm glowing lamps here and there. Shirayuki and Ryuu often come here to take care and harvest the plants for their medicine.
I've been here for a while now, but I still don't feel like leaving yet. The plants ruffle slightly with the slight sudden breeze and its soothing sound goes well with the peace I feel.
It's pretty late, the sun has already set and I decided earlier to take a stroll because even though it feels weird to admit, I grew fond off this place and see it as my home. Having a place to call my home is something I haven't felt in a long time since my house in the mountains. It makes me happy and warm from inside to know I have a place and a family again.
Without me realizing a tear slips out and runs over my cheek as I still look at the garden in a hypnotized state. A sudden hand on my shoulder interrupts my peace of mind and I whip around. I see Obi with a smile and about to say something but he pauses.
"You're crying." His hand goes to my cheek and he wipes the tear away with his thumb. "Something wrong?"
"Oh I.." I move my hand to check the place he just wiped. "I-I didn't even realize."
"What? Are you feeling okay?" He asks and moves his hands to both my shoulders while looking worried.
"Yes, totally fine. I was just thinking."
"You think too much then."
I smile. "It's a tear of happiness, though."
"Oh~ is miss (Y/N) gettin' all sappy now?" He teases.
I roll my eyes and push him playfully. "I'm being serious, Obi~" I say with a light tone and a smile. "I'm just.. so glad to be here and to have met everyone. I just got emotional without knowing."
"Aaawh~" he lets out as he wraps me in a hug. "You're probably going to here this a lot from me from now on, but stop being so cute!"
I giggle and I'm having trouble answering in his chest so I move my head to the side to answer. "I didn't know you thought I'm cute."
He stops embracing me by backing off and putting his hands on my shoulders again. He also bends down a bit so he has this confronting stance. "Are you kidding? You're adorable and I promise it's not just your height that's cute." He says and smirks.
"Are you calling me short?"
"Well, aren't you?"
"I'm not. I'm vertically challenged." I say and smile as he chuckles. I can't help but smile whenever he does.
"Sure whatever." He says smirking and releases my shoulders. We then both move to lean on the fence and look at the garden.
"This reminds me of when Shirayuki and I were here." Obi says. "She woke up in the middle of the night and since I'm nocturnal, I found her outside. We had a chat and I eventually had to wake up master so they could meet here."
I giggle. "How romantic."
"Yeah and what's more, Kiki, Mitsuhide and I saw them later like this-" He quickly moves and picks me up bridal style completely taking me by surprise. I let out a yelp of surprise and look at the now smug looking Obi.
"Reeally?" I ask, questioning the fact that he took a story as an opportunity to make a move.
"Yes, reeally." He says confirming that Zen and Shirayuki were really like this, even though he knows I mean something else.
I roll my eyes and just give in by leaning my head towards him. He continues his story.
"We saw master running while carrying the miss like this. They probably went to a more private spot." He says and I know what he's just going to suggest. "So wanna go somewhere?"
I lift my head up to look at his yellow catlike eyes. "What do you think?" I ask sarcastically.
"Oh I don't know, what do you think?" He also says sarcastically. He just wants to hear me say yes, I'm sure.
"Heck yes." I say and his smile broadens.
"Alright, hang on tight miss."
He then starts running pretty fast. I have no idea where he's heading as he runs down through the herbal garden.
"Close your eyes." He says.
"How cliche." I mutter and do as he says. Moments later he stops and by the sound of our surroundings I could here we are in the forest part of the royal gardens. "Can I open my eyes?"
"Not yet." I feel him bending down and he lays me gently down on the grass. I hear some more grass shuffling next to me before he talks again. "Alright, you can look now."
The first thing I see when lifting my eyelids is the hundreds of stars twinkling in the black night sky. I hadn't noticed before that the sky was this clear tonight because I was at a lit area, so I took a moment to appreciate the gems above me before looking to my right. Obi was sitting there and he was inspecting my face it seems.
When my yellow eyes meet his yellow cat-like eyes I could feel warmth and happiness surrounding me. We stay like that for a bit until I look at the sky again.
"Come lay down too. The sky is far too beautiful to ignore." I say.
"Says you." He says and inches closer to my face to give me a soft kiss. "You're also too beautiful to ignore."
I snort at his cheesiness and blush a bit. He then moves to lay down like I said, but instead of lying next to me he lays with his head on my stomach.
I smile as I find it pretty cute. "Am I a comfy pillow?"
"The comfiest." he answers softly while looking at the sky.
Under the night's starlight we continue our conversations while listening to the forest's breeze.
I have overcome my past.
I have gained my home.
I have met my family.
And..
I move my hand to stroke Obi's hair. He shifts his gaze to me with a warm smile.
I have found my soulmate.
