Kaede, Rantaro, and Shuichi all stared at each other, tension building up. Shuichi covered his mouth, realizing his mistake. But it was way too late to take it back. He said the name, and now he’d have to answer to them.
“Who’s Kirumi,” Kaede said in a menacing tone as if Shuichi just threatened her.
“N-no o-one,” Shuichi stuttered. Rantaro took his gun out, grabbing Shuichi, and putting it to his head. “W-wait!”
“She asked you a question,” Rantaro hissed.
“Rantaro, wait,” Kaede said, injecting kindness in her rather scary tone. “I’m sure Shuichi would gladly tell us who Kirumi is without resorting to violence.” Her voice was sickly sweet, as she walked beside Shuichi, batting her eyes. “Right, Shuichi?” She said his name in a flirty tone.
“U-um,” he attempted to speak, his face turning a shade of red. “S-sure…” Rantaro loosened his grip, putting the gun away.
Kaede smiled, getting closer to his face. “So? Who is she?”
“S-she is… she is…” Shuichi stopped, realization hitting him. And it pained him to believe it.
“She is what?”
Shuichi sighed before pushing Kaede away and making a run for it. Rantaro opened fire, aiming at Shuichi’s feet. Kaede tried calling after him but he didn’t stop. He couldn’t stop. Not if he wanted to keep both his feet. Footsteps were heard behind him, the gun shots closing in. He booked it into the woods, hoping to lose them. It took awhile but he was eventually successful. The gunshots finally stopped.
“Where did he go,” Kaede shouted, stopping.
“He must be using the trees and bushes to hide himself,” Rantaro suggested.
“Well, find him! I don’t care if you have to burn the woods down to do it, just find him!”
“Well maybe we’d still have him if you had just let me-”
“Don’t. Talk. Back. To. Me. You better not be forgetting your place.” Her voice get dark.
“Of course not. I just meant-”
“Good. Because it would be a shame if I had you.. Replaced.” Rantaro gulped. “What are you waiting for? Go!”
“Yes, Kaede.”
“Oh and one more thing. Feel free to use any kind of force to get him to the mainson. As long as he is alive.” Rantaro nodded.
They went their separate ways, leading Shuichi to let out a sigh of relief, cowering behind a tree. He slowly calmed his breathing before peeking out, making sure the coast was clear. There were footprints on the ground, indicating which directions the two went. Picking a path in the opposite of the two, he tried to make his way back to Kirumi.
As he was walking, he memorized his surroundings, wanting to know this place like the back of his hand. The better he knew the place, the easier it would be to travel. Unfortunately, almost everything looked the same. If it hadn’t been for a few rocks, rocks, and leaves here and there, he would have suspected he was going in circles. He started to believe he’d never find his way out. As he stopped to take a break, a scream was heard.
Despite what his mind told him to do, he ran towards the voice as it slowly died down. Finding the source, he came to a complete stop. He covered his mouth, preventing a scream from escaping.
Bodies. Bloody bodies everywhere. And in the middle of it all was a mysterious figure, hidden under a cloak, their hand inside a guy’s chest, pulling out a bloody clock. The guy fell to the floor, now a lifeless corpse.
The cloaked figure wondered off, leaving their mess behind. Shuichi approached a corpse. It was clear to see he had died the same way. They all did. Not only that, but they were all missing their hearts.
This was too much for the detective, having already seen one too many dead bodies.
“W-why would someone do this,” he asked himself. “T-this is… this i-is…”
“Pretty gory, right,” a voice asked behind him. Shuichi screamed, turning around to see Kokichi. “Whoa, jumpy much?”
“Y-you little-” Shuichi grabbed Kokichi’s neck.
“Ack- well, isn’t this an intersting turn of events.” Kokichi smiled wide. Shuichi felt his heart stop. This scene was all too familiar. He let go, taking a step back. Kokichi gave a genualy worried look.
“Saihara-chan?”
“N-no…” Shuichi’s voice came out as a whisper.
Flashbacks of the second class trial flooded through his mind, tearing his heart apart. But those weren’t the only memories. He recalled how Kokichi had tricked Gonta, causing the insect meet and greet. They all had hated Kokichi.
“Shuichi,” Kokichi shouted, catching the crying male’s attention. “If you’re sad about the dead bodies, don’t be. They’ll come back eventually.” Shuichi gave him a confused look.
“W-what,” Shuichi asked.
“We don’t work the same here as people do where you’re from. But it’s not my place to explain. I suggest asking Kirumi about what she does for a living.”
Shuichi was taken aback by Kokichi saying Kirumi. “Kokichi, I need answers.”
“Wrong! You don’t need answers. You want them. Shuichi growled, wiping his tears away. “Fine fine. What do you want to know?” Shuichi opened his mouth to speak but was immediately stopped. “Think carefully. I’ll only answer one.”
“One!? I think you owe me a million!”
“Tick tock. This offer only last for another minute.”
“B-but-” He sighed. There was no use arguing. “Fine. Why did you bring me here?”
“Good question. You see, the answer is simple. I wanted to see you~”
“Huh? But couldn’t you just find this world’s me?”
Kokichi just smiled. Shuichi glared, knowing he wouldn’t get his answer.
“Kokichi,” called out a buff, manly looking female approaching the two. “You weren’t supposed to leave you’re post. Maki is furious.”
“Eh, she can wait,” Kokichi replied. “Can’t you see I’m talking to my beloved?” Shuichi growled.
“Maki said-”
“Maki Maki Maki. I’m started to think you like her more than your girlfriend.”
“For the last time, Asahina isn’t my-”
“Yeah keep telling yourself that!” Kokichi laughed, angering the woman even more.
Shuichi decided to exclude himself and quickly left. Fortunately, it ended up being the right path to Kirumi’s house. He walked in and headed straight for his room.
“Ah, Shuichi,” Kirumi said when she saw him. “How did-” Shuichi slammed the door shut.
He laid down on the bed, wanting to just go home.
