Kokichi laid on a table, shouting his protest, which would go unheard. Kaede and Shuichi waited by the entrance, welcoming the girl who walked in. She had purplish brown hair with bunny ears sticking out of her head. Shuichi held one of Kaede’s guns in his hand, ready to shoot if needed. Though as the the girl bowed her head, almost losing balance and colliding with the floor, he realized she wasn’t much of a threat and sighed a breath of relief. Kaede noticed this, smirking.
“This is Mikan Tsumiki,” she said. “Unlike the rest of us, she isn’t taking sides. Meaning even if I commanded her to kill Kokichi, she wouldn’t!”
“Okay okay,” Shuichi said, looking back at the room Kokichi was in. “Just hurry up and save him.”
Kaede nodded, shoving Mikan towards the room. Once Mikan was no longer in sight, Kaede lead Shuichi outside to a garden, where a large table sat filled with food. Rantaro sat in one of the seats, waving to them with one hand and eating a piece of pie with the other. Kaede crossed her arms, glowering down at Rantaro.
“What are you doing here,” Kaede asked.
“You seemed to have everything under control,” Rantaro said. “Even managed to get Shuichi.”
“No thanks to you. And I don’t recall saying you could go on break.”
“Well you see, I have some questions I’d like to ask as well.”
“No,” Shuichi growled.
“You don’t have a choice. Not if you want Kokichi to live.”
Shuichi glared before looking away. “Fine. Ask away.”
“Sit,” Kaede said, jestering to a chair before sitting herself.
He hesitant sat, looking around incase this was a trap. Kaede handed him a cup of tea, which he immediately put down, raising an eyebrow.
“Relax. No tricks or traps.” She smiled kindly, sipping her own cup of tea.
“Just ask your questions,” Shuichi said, holding his breath and looking away from Kaede. It pained him to be cold to her.
“Kaede leaned closer to him, smirking. “Tell me who Kirumi is.”
He sighed. Kirumi might have his head if he didn’t think of a lie soon. What did I tell Maki, Shuichi asked himself. Nothing was coming to mind. “She’s… um…”
“We're waiting,” Kaede tapped her nails on the table.
“L-listen. She isn’t that important.”
Her smile faded. “I. Don’t. Care. Tell me.”
Shuichi thought for a second before remembering something. “Kirumi is a maid from where I'm from.”
Kaede blinked, giving a confused look. “What?”
“A maid. Back at home. Like I said, not important…” He looked down at the tea as his voice trailed off. Memories came flooding back. The hangouts, the blood, and the tears. She died because of a lie. A lot did. All the bodies and trials flashed through his mind, each one feeling like a stab in the chest.
“Shuichi,” Kaede shouted, snapping Shuichi out of it. “You’re crying.” She took a sip of her tea.
“Huh? He wiped the tears away, surprised to find it true.
“Next question.”
Shuichi wanted to protest but stayed silent.
“What is Kokichi to you?”
The question caught him off guard, causing him to think for a second. “Well, I don’t quite know. We weren’t friends in my world. And he was the one who brought me here. But-"
“What is your world like?”
He stayed silent for a couple seconds. “Boring. Cruel. Despairful.”
“That doesn’t sound much different than this world.” She tilted her head.
“It is. We don’t carry weapons everywhere or treat death like a game. Well, not anymore at least.”
“Hmm.”
“My turn,” Rantaro said, reminding them of his presence.
Shuichi gulped, preparing for whatever the question was.
“Have you met Kaito yet?”
