Kokichi and Shuichi ran down the hall, Kokichi tugging on Shuichi’s arm every couple seconds. The guards weren’t too far behind, believing Shuichi had attempted to assassinate the queen with Kokichi as his accomplish. There would be no reasoning with them, only running. The guards were catching up, their weapons cutting close to the two. But Kokichi had a plan, one that Shuichi definitely wouldn’t agree to. So Kokichi didn’t give him a choice before jumping out the nearest window. It would be a long way down, still being on the top floor, and Shuichi’s screams would be heard from all over the castle, drawing the attention of more guards.

As they neared the ground, their pace slowed down, making them land on their feet.  But there was no time to stop, sending them back into a running frenzy till they made it out of the castle grounds. Once far enough that the guards stopped chasing them, Shuichi collapsed to the ground, feeling close to passing out.

“Y-you’re crazy,” Shuichi said, closing his eyes.

“Of course I am,” Kokichi replied in a surprisingly cheerful tone. “This whole world is crazy, after all!”

Shuichi groaned. “I just want to go home!”

“Pfft, no you don’t!”

Shuichi instantly sat up. “Excuse me?”

“I know all about your world and how miserable you were! You’ll love it here soon enough.” Kokichi made of of his creepy faces, earning a disturbed look from Shuichi.

“I’ll never like it here. Especially if I’m killed.” His tone was cold as he stood up, walking away from Kokichi.

“Saihara-chan wait!”

He didn’t wait. To his surprise, Kokichi never went after him. Instead, when he looked back, Kokichi was gone, making him sigh in relief. He took this time to sit and contemplate everything that happened. Was Maki going to be okay? Would the guards come after him? Did he want to go home?

That was the question that stopped him. Despite how much he hated the purple gremlin, he was right. There was almost no one to go back to. At least here, looking past all the near death situations, his friends were alive. When people tried to kill him, it wasn’t about him ending some stupid game, it was because that’s how things work here. Surely he could get use to it, right?

“Stop it,” Shuichi yelled at himself, shaking his head. “I don’t belong here and can’t stay.” He could almost hear the sadness in his own voice. “I can’t.”

Maki held her head in pain, scolding at herself for seeming so weak. Not only were people questioning her leadership but Shichi escaped to who knows where. This would be a major set back that could only be solved by one thing.

A knock came from her bedroom door, Peko walking in soon after.

“My queen,” she said, bowing her head. “You requested to see me?”

“And Fuyuhiko,” Maki spat, glaring down at Peko.

“My apologies. He is currently finishing up a mission that I could not interrupt.”

Before either could react, Maki’s hand met with Peko’s face, leaving a bright red mark. “When I call for you, it cancels out whatever missions you’re assigned to, until further notice.” Her voice was sharp and cold.

Peko nodded slowly. “I understand.”

“Good. Now listen closely, because if you mess this up, I will have your head on a stick. I want you and Fuyuhiko to find Kokichi and kill him.”

Peko’s head shot up. “That could be-”

“Imposibble? I trust you two can handle it.”

“But…” Peko sighed. “Yes, my queen.”

"And one more thing. Don’t kill the outsider that has been seen around the castle a couple times. Hurt him all you want but leave him alive.”

“As you wish.” Peko quickly left the room.
