Maki made her daily rounds through the castle, barking orders to whoever was nearby. The second someone saw her, they stood up straight, attempting, but failing, to keep themselves from shaking. She held her sword, it swinging back and forth as she walked. Their terrified faces were seen, mirroring off of it. Maki eyed them all, clearly looking for a certain person.

As she went from room to room, she had yet to find him. No one had seen him around either. Maki was losing her patients.

“I bet that idiot got lost again,” she mumbled.

Making her way down her least favorite hall, she considered asking Kokichi. Everyone knew he kept tabs on everyone, even his enemies. If anyone could help, it would be him. But getting a straightforward answer wouldn’t be easy, making him the last person she wanted to ask. As she made her way towards his bedroom door, she heard yelling, followed by loud bangs.

“Kokichi,” a voice yelled from the other side. “Please come back! Please, open this door!” The voice was familiar. Desperate. “I’m so fucking stupid!”

The whole situation peeked Maki’s interest. This must be that intruder from the other day, she thought. The male didn’t seem like a friend to Kokichi. Though, not exactly an enemy either.

“Anybody there!? Please! Help!”

Maki wondered if perhaps Kokichi had tried to kill him. She imagined the intruder covered in cuts, burns, and blood. Maybe he was left there to die ever so slowly, not knowing no one would come to his aid. There was no good reason for Maki to open the door and let the victim out. But this person peaked her interest, beckoning her to open it.

She took out a skeleton key, unlocking the door. The room on the other side went quiet, making her wonder if the person had died. She slowly opened the door, coming face to face with a surprisingly fine Shuichi. His eyes widened, as he took a couple steps back.

“M-Maki,” he stuttered.

“Hello,” she replied. “So, we finally got a chance to talk.” She walked forward, towering over Shuichi.

“Y-yes.” He cleared his throat. “Um… I’m Shuichi.”

She nodded. “You seem to know me. Care to explain?” Shuichi backed away at her glare.

“You wouldn’t believe me. I’m not sure if even I believe all this.”

“Explain-” She held her sword to his neck. “-or die.”

He gulped. “O-okay! Please just put the sword down!”

“Actually, we shouldn’t talk here. Kokichi could be back soon. So you will follow me to my room. Understand?” He nodded. “Good.”

She put her sword down, motioning for Shuichi to follow.

Kokichi stared at the knocked out Tenko, a smirk on his face. Originally, he hadn't meant to do it. But when the thought approached the small boy, he knew he needed to act without thinking. Now he could go back to Shuichi. He imagined Shuichi still banging on his door, pleading and shouting. But no one would dare open the door without Kokichi’s permission. They would all assume he was trapped there to die.

Maybe that was why Shuichi had panicked so much. Kokichi had felt Shuichi was overreacting, but considering the weapons he had, it made sense.

“I guess I’ll apologize,” Kokichi said to himself. “Hopefully it will keep him from leaving.”

As he rounded the corner, down the hall to his room, he froze. His bedroom door was wide open. Frantically searching around, he called out for Shuichi. But there was never an answer. That meant one of two things. Either Shuichi escaped, or was about to be killed.
