Rogue Kings POV
I paced around the room and I felt myself grow irritated. I couldn't find her or had any clue to where she was. A few years ago I had her exact location and then it was gone. She vanished like a ghost and I'm back to looking for her.
I was looking for the girl that smelled like lavender and lemon.
The rogues that followed me haven't been able to find her trace anywhere it's like she's sending us on a wild goose chase. The moon goddess gave me a task, to find her and help her which was vague considering I have no idea how she looked like. All I know about her was that she smelled like lavender and lemon. No one smells like that except for the moon goddess and I suspect it was to make it easier for me to find her but it's been years since I smelt that for myself.
"Sir." I get pulled out of my thoughts by the lead scout. "What is it?" He straightened up and so did I. These rogues always want to show off how unaffected they are by my authority but it's always the same, I'm their leader and they will bow or die. "We found the scent of lavender and lemons around several packs but it's not as strong. Almost as if it comes and goes like a visitor." I think about it for a quick minute and the rage boils my blood. She's been moving under our noses and we didn't even realize it. She's been playing a game with me. "Get the others ready, we're attacking the packs and getting that person." I growled out and in an instant he was out of the door.
I felt myself shaking and growls escaped me. I was ready to shift and I howled letting my men know that we were heading soon.
Caleb's POV
The phone in my office started ringing and I quickly picked up the phone. "Alpha Caleb speaking." There was hard breathing on the other line and I sat confused. "Alpha I'm sorry for the inconvenience but its Jasmine." John's mate? Usually when my phone rings the Alpha or beta are speaking I've never had their mate call me. "It's no problem. What can I help you with?" The noise on the other side started getting louder and I felt myself start sweating. There is something wrong. "Our pack is under attack and I fear we will lose please help us, John and his beta are outside fighting rogues but the're so many and already so many wolves have lost their lives. Please help us I beg you. " She was crying and I heard a deafening roar on the other side as I heard Jasmine growl. "I'll be there in a few minutes please hang in there." I hung up and quickly howled. My warriors joined me and I headed out to brief them.
My beta joined me quickly a look of concern on his face. "What's wrong?" I grimace and say "The Shadow pack is being attacked and it seems they won't make it, the Luna has asked us for assistance and I agreed. We leave now stay behind and watch the pack." He shook his head. "No I'll go, the pack and your mate need you here. Your mate will worry too much and you have to stay here and protect them if the rogues find out we were involved, you can protect your family. Stay here and I'll go. Well be back." Reluctantly I nod. "Alright but I'll go and see you off. Bring any of the rogues in for questioning." After making sure everything is in order I send my warriors off along with my beta.
I waited for hours for them to come back and I was tempted to link them to see if everything was alright but that's one of my rules I will never break. One link is all it takes for a warrior to lose focus and every second matters in battle. I made it a rule for my warriors to always be alert , speak with your eyes and convey everything with only a few nods and eye contact. It was hard but it finally had people who perfected it. I was beginning to worry, the pack was only 45 minutes away and they had been gone for four hours almost five. My thoughts were broken by the sound of my office door opening and my son running through. His giggling filling my empty office and making my lips tilt into a smile. He was a smaller version of myself the only thing he got from his mother were a few birth marks. Behind my giggly boy was his mother looking very serious.
"The warriors and Will have returned." I quickly pick up Caleb and put him in his mother arms as I make my way outside, mentally preparing myself for the worst. I finally make it outside where I see all my warriors greeting their loved ones, Will sees me and I study his face as he walks towards me. "We were a little too late. By the time we got there half of the pack had been wiped out and by the time they retreated only a few handfuls were left. Their Alpha and beta were killed a long with the beta's mate. Only the Luna survived but we immediately took her to the doctor since she was barely hanging on. We brought back three of the rogues that attacked them but one of them ripped his own throat out." I nod as the information entered my brain. Anger and sadness flowed through me, I stared out to the crowd that had gathered in front of us. I howl and my warriors join me. We howl to the moon goddess so she can welcome the innocent lives lost. Once the howling ended I stared at the new lost faces. They were mostly children and women along with a few teens, most of them were sobbing and holding onto to their pack mates. My heart clenched at the sight, they all lost the men that protected them to their last breath.
Clearing my throat I started talking. " This injustice will not stand. I will not let them get away with this. For now we will rest and gather forces, to you who have lost everything, I welcome you to this pack with open arms and I apologize that we got the call too late. I'm sure the ones you all lost will look upon you and smile when they see that their fighting was not in vain. They may be gone from beside us physically but they will always be with us in our hearts. They wills always protect us. We will provide anything that you need. We will have you all settle into this pack if you so wish to. " Not the best speech I've given but their sadness and gratitude showed on most of their faces. I clenched my fists as I turned to Will. "Call the alphas and tell them whats happened. We need to settle these people into homes. I'm going to interrogate the rogues you brought with you." He nods and tells me they're in the dungeons and I turn before I stare at the crowd getting the feeling that I was being watched.
