THE NEXT day, I awoke to the sound of knocking at my door. I huddled in the covers of the bed and yelled, "What do you want?"

The door creaked open and Rebecca peeked her head through. "Hey sleepy-head, I need to get you some appropriate clothes to wear. Your father wants to see you."

I groaned and lifted myself off the bed. I hadn't changed out of the nightgown. I was too exhausted to do anything last night. Except, of course, raid the kitchens. I needed something to eat, and the chocolate cake was available.

Rebecca rummaged through the closet and pulled out a pink dress with little frillies on the sleeves.

I pointed to it, "What the bloody hell is that?"

"It's a dress."

I glared at Rebecca, "I can bloody see that. I'm not wearing it."

"Why not?" Rebecca pouted. "It would look so good on you."

"If the ki-. My father wants to see me, he can see me as I am."

"Fine, but you're still changing out of those. We can get you a different set of clothes." She went back to the closet and dug through the clothes. She held up a white shirt and a pair of black pants. "Is this good enough for you? Your Highness?"

I glared harder. "Don't call me that. Give me the clothes and I'll change myself." I held out a hand.

"I'm sorry Kiara, but as your personal servant, I have to help you change."

"If I needed your help I would've asked." I snatched the clothes out of Rebecca's hands and went behind a curtain. I threw on the clothes hastily and showed it to Rebecca. "How does this look?"

She walked up, adjusted a couple of things, said I looked ok, and led me out the door.

The foyer was pretty much a miniature version of the Throne Room, but where the king would sit on the throne, Queen Sarah sat. My eyes widened with all of the similarities that appeared in my mind.

The queen put her hands over her mouth to hold back what I assumed to be a sob.

She reached out a hand, "Ki-Kiara?" I stood stuck to the ground, but I could feel the tears running down my cheeks.

After a bout of silence, the queen finally ran up and threw her arms around me. "You've grown so much my darling."

Slowly, very slowly, I wrapped my arms around her. "I feel like I've known you all my life, but I just met you."

"Ahem," the king coughed behind us. I quickly wiped away the tears, and let my arms fall to my sides. "It seems I have interrupted some business going on over here." The corner of his lips went up a fraction.

"Jacob!" the queen yelled. "We were having a mother-daughter moment here. You always do this!"

To my surprise, the king and queen both boomed out with laughter. I just stared at them, slack-jawed.

When the laughter calmed down, the king spoke, "Any way, you were called here to receive your schedule." At my confused expression, he continued. "Since you haven't had any proper training, we need to have someone teach you the importance of proper etiquette."

He handed me a piece of folded paper. "This is your schedule."

When I saw the schedule, a complaint burst from my mouth, "But I-"

"No buts." the king interrupted. "If you know all of this, then you should do just fine. All of this starts tomorrow. Today, Rebecca is going to take you on a tour of the castle.

I was about to complain more, but I was pushed out of the room and shoved into the waiting arms of Rebecca.
