CHAPTER SEVENTEEN; A VERY AWKWARD CHRISTMAS
(PART TWO)
CHRISTMAS MORNING STARTED OUT, pretty normal for James Potter, besides the fact that he had only recently admitted to himself that he was in love with Kassandra, but that's beside the point, really. Thanks to his parents, and Hope Lupin, Remus' mother, he was able to think up the perfect gifts for Kassandra that he hoped would show that he truly did care. But he supposes that she wouldn't truly know how he felt by gifts, but he could only hope. Because James Potter's confidence dwindled every time he was around her. It was abnormal, because he never felt that way with Lily Evans.
Breakfast for Christmas was only slightly awkward, but thanks to Kassandra the tension was slightly broken. James felt uncomfortable under his parents' gaze, but he didn't let it show. He has noticed that they watched him and Kassandra's interactions a lot more now, and he couldn't help but wish they'd knock it off. If they kept that up, he was sure Kass would realize his feelings before they even returned to Hogwarts.
Now that wouldn't really be a horrible thing, but he wanted a chance to do this right. After all, they were looking at a first wizarding war in the near future, and he wanted something bright to come out of it. Something worth remembering, and hopefully that would happen if his plan went through the way it's supposed to.
Now they were opening presents, and James couldn't help the smile that graced his lips as he watched Kassandra open her presents. Her eyes lit up with each present she opened, and soon it came to James' present. He had made her a knitted sweater like she had done for them years prior, and a kitten. He had made a special trip to Diagon Alley without Kassandra's knowledge after much consultation with his parents and Sirius.
"J-James, I cant accept this,"Kassandra had muttered, but with her eyes wide James could already tell that she had fallen in love with the kitten.
"Yes you can, I insist," James tried his hand at reassuring her, a soft smile on his face.
He watched as a bright smile made its way onto her lips, before she flung her arms around him awkwardly. He tried his best to hide the blush that made its way onto his face.
"Thank you, ickle prongsie!"
He watched as she lifted the kitten out of the box.
"Why, hello there, little one! I shall name you shadow!"
Laughter filled the room at her exclamation, and James couldn't be any happier. He was surprised to find out he barely thought about Lily Evans at all.
"Your turn, James!" Boomed Fleamont, as he handed his son his presents.
James chuckled, before he began opening his own presents. From his parents, he got a new broomstick, and some Quidditch gloves, to which he thanked both of them with a huge hug. From Sirius, he got a stag ornament along with a jaguar, dog, a rat, and a werewolf, it made James smirk as he thanked his best mate. It was creative, which was saying something about Sirius. Next he opened his gift from Remus, which was a picture of the Mauraders during one of their late night adventures to the kitchens at Hogwarts. Peters gift was similar to what he had gotten Kassandra, Quidditch through the ages with a small note attached saying how sorry he was that he got the two the same gift. He just couldn't think of anything, either way, James was content with it. And if everything went according to plan, him and Kassandra could read it together. So conveniently Wormtail just helped out.
The last gift James received was from Kassandra herself. He handled this gift delicately as he slowly unwrapped it, much to Kassandra's surprise. In it held a glass globe with snow pouring overtop a tiny picture that James noted with wide eyes, the picture of just him and Kassandra during the Christmas ball. They were only friends then, no feeling involved, but James couldn't help that his heart fluttered. He watched as Kassandra blushed, which made him smile all the more.
"S-sorry, I couldn't erm really think of anything else.." Kassandra stuttered out awkwardly.
"No, it's, uh, it's perfect," James answered with a smile.
Neither Kassandra nor James noticed the knowing looks Sirius had shared with Euphemia and Fleamont.

CONTENT, Sirius Black watched as his twin sister, and his second family open their gifts on Christmas Day. He of course noticed the tension, and had tried everything in his power to make things okay with his sister, and James. He hated seeing how awkward they both were towards each other now, if frankly made even himself feel awkward. And that was hard to do, it's very hard making Sirius Black uncomfortable.
"Alright, Padfoot, time to open up your gifts!" Exclaimed Kassandra, as she smiled at him.
Sirius smiled, "will do, sis, will do!" He saluted.
First, he received a photo album similar to Kassandra's from Fleamont and Euphemia, to which Sirius quickly thanked them with a huge hug. Next, he received a box of Bertie botts flavored beans from Remus, and Peter had gotten him a nice miniature broomstick. He received Quidditch gloves, and things to help during tryouts from James, because Sirius was going to try out for the Beater position.
Last but certainly not least, Sirius carefully opened Kassandra's gift to him. He was in awe as he pulled out a nice leather jacket, as he gaped at his twin.
"Close your mouth, Siri, you may catch flies," Kassandra smirked.
"Oh, sod off!" Sirius grinned. "This is brilliant. Thank you!"
And the siblings embraced in a much needed hug. For Sirius felt like they were drifting apart, and he realized he needs to spend more time with his sister. They were, in fact, family.
