CHAPTER ONE; A PERFECT END TO A PERFECT SUMMER

     (BUT NOT FOR REGULUS.)

MONTHS FLEW BY, and it was almost September First. The moment where the five best friends known as the Marauders would be able to return happily to their home away from home, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. To Kassandra, despite the darkness that was threatening to fall upon the wizarding world, she couldn't be happier. She finally got together with James, and their relationship was growing stronger each and every day. Not to say that they didn't argue, because they did, but it only made the two stronger. Sirius was still as clingy as ever towards his sister. Remus still struggles with his unrequited love, and his lycanthropy. And well, Peter, let's just say he's secretly fed up with being a follower to the Marauders, though he wouldn't voice it out loud. Only Regulus was aware of Peter's true intentions.

Today, they would all be meeting up in Diagon Alley, along with Lily Evans and Lucas Meadows. For after the awkward sixth year, they became quite close over the summer, now that James was officially over Lily, and Lily was happy with Lucas. Kassandra has actually grown quite fond of Lily, between the two girls having late night conversations about weddings, and brighter, happier topics. Kassandra even went so far to tell Lily that if she were to ever get married, she wanted Lily to be the maid of honor.

Now that's not to say the two girls didn't discuss darker topics of discussion. They quite frequently talked about Voldemort and his rise to power along with his Death Eaters, and how he's been recruiting students of Hogwarts. Her and Lily wished there was only a way for the two to fight back, like an army. Little did the girls know that Professor Dumbledore would approach them along with Lucas Meadows, the Prewitt Twins, and the rest of the Marauders by the end of the school year.

"Come on, Kassie! It's almost time to go!" Shouted Sirius, as he stood outside her bedroom door.

"Oh, calm your tits, Siri! I'm coming!" Kassandra replied, as she finished up her outfit, before opening her door. "Happy? Let's go."

Kassandra chuckled, as Sirius pretended to pout, before he stalked off down the stairs. Kassandra's laughter echoed as she followed him, before they came to a stop by the fireplace in the Potter's living room, where James Potter stood, as attractive as ever. His messy hair being ten times messier than the previous year, if that were even possible. Those gorgeous Hazel eyes sparkling with mischief, as always.

Euphemia Potter smiled, "you three be careful, yeah? Dark times out there."

"We will Mum, not to worry," James reassured her.

Euphemia merely smiled, as she hugged all of them separately, before James urged Kassandra into the fireplace, where she would be traveling first, with Sirius coming behind her, and then James would follow.

Stepping into the fireplace, Kassandra pinched a little bit of Floo powder, before she yelled clearly, "Diagon Alley!"

A puff of green smoke erupted around her, as her stomach gave a lurch, and she came to rest in the Leaky Cauldron, where she would wait for Sirius and James, before going into Diagon Alley. Wiping soot off of her, the boys soon joined her and off they went towards Floreans Icecream parlor which was thankfully intact, where the three would meet up with the rest of them. James held tightly to Kassandra's hand as they walked, leaving Sirius to sulk beside of them.

"C'mon, Prongs, I thought what we had was special!" Sirius wailed dramatically, earning quite a few looks from the witches and wizards walking by.

James playfully rolled his eyes, "awe does little Padfoot want to hold Prongs' hand, too?" He cooed.

"Oi, back off, Padfoot," grinned Kassandra. "The stag is mine."

"Oh, sod off, Prongs," Sirius replied with a bark of laughter. "Oi, he was mine first," he added towards his sister.

The three playfully bickered back and forth all the way to Floreans, where they where greeted by cheers all around.

"Kassie!" Shouted Lily, wrapping her arms around her.

Kassandra chuckled, "Hey, Lils," She said returning the hug with the fiery red head.

"The Marauders are back in business!" Shouted James, as he fistbumped Remus, who reluctantly did it back.

"Glad to have all of us back!" Squeaked Peter, though half heartedly, which everyone else was oblivious, too.

"Good to see ya, Black, Black, Potter, Pettigrew, Lupin," greeted Lucas.

"Oh, please, Meadows, your with Lils, you can use our names, you know?" Teased Kassandra.

   "Oh, right. Okay then, Kassandra."

Laughter was all that could be heard inside that small ice cream shop, and it done a great deal of good for Florean to hear it, along with the other witches and wizards inside the shop. For darker times was occurring, and they would need all the laughter they could get. What a perfect end to a perfect summer. Or at least, for the Marauders, Lily, and Lucas.

THINGS WERE DIFFERENT, back at Number Twelve Grimmauld Place. More dreary, as just recently. Regulus had been gifted the Dark Mark. Despite how guilty he originally felt with how he acted towards Kassandra the previous year which resulted in her stay at the Hospital Wing, Regulus knew he would not be able to have sympathy for her any longer.

He was on what he considered to be the winning side, and he only done it because it ensured Kassandra's safety, and even Sirius'. Because despite how the youngest Black sibling felt, he still cared about his eldest brother and sister. They were, after all, a family. A broken one, maybe, but still family. One that Regulus would go to the ends of the earth to protect, even if that meant killing muggles, and blood traitors alike.

But regulus knew a secret. One that was sure to be the demise of certain people, but Regulus could not tell anyone. He was sworn to secrecy, and the Dark Lord would surely kill him, if he was to ever tell anyone. Especially the ones that were his friends. He just wished his sister would have been smart enough to join the Dark Lord with him, but alas, he knows his sister would rather die. And that terrified him.

Because a traitor was amongst their midst, and regulus could only hope his sister wouldn't be hurt in the process.
