Trigger warning: mention of abusive relationship and drug abuse. Stay safe loves 💕

☁︎☀︎☁︎

Archie didn't have anything.

He used to have everything, actually, but now everything was gone. He no longer had a job, he could no longer afford his apartment, he had no friends, and his Dad wouldn't even talk to him.

Archie had nothing.

He knew that he was dumb for thinking that what he was about to do would fix everything. He'd been clean for two years, both from his drug addiction and from his abusive relationship that he was stupidly on his way back to.

It just seemed befitting.

His ex was cruel but at least he was someone.

Archie really needed someone.

He figured that he could escape the manipulative man again if he really needed to. The first time he got out of their relationship, he made it two months before crawling back. The second time, he made it 6 months. The last time, he made it 2 years. He was sure that this time would be the last time.

His ex was the person that got him to start abusing drugs, all while abusing him. He had an insane way of making Archie believe that everything was his fault. If he cheated, he found a way to get Archie to believe that it was because of something he did, and even got him to apologize. He never had trouble reminding the redhead that he was all he had and that he should be grateful to have him in his life.

Manipulation.

Archie could see past all of it, but the problem was that he never wanted to. His ex was comfort when everything else around him was up in flames. Somehow, being on his own was scarier than his old lover when he was screaming in his face about how much of a fuck up he was.

Archie saw it like this; he spent two years on his own and ended up at rock bottom once again. At least with his ex, he never had to pay for anything. He never had to work. Sure, he couldn't leave the house or hang out with the friends he used to have once upon a time ago, but it was worth it.

Of course all of his old friends told him that the man was bad news but Archie didn't know how to explain it. His friends weren't the ones offering him a place to stay. His friends didn't hold him at night. His friends didn't whisper sweet nothings in his ear at midnight when they finally decided to come home. Archie was sure that his current predicament was a lot worse than his old one.

That was why he was on his way to make a big mistake with a few of his things in the trunk of his car.

Archie had texted the man an hour before, apologizing for leaving and practically begging to come back. He wasn't proud of it, but he did what he had to do.

Even so, he couldn't help but frown at the way he still knew his blocked number by heart.

A blare from a horn snapped him out of his thoughts, causing Archie to quickly lean his foot on the gas and drive off to his inescapable fate. He drove past familiar restaurants, ones that his ex used to yell at and embarrass him in. Though they weren't good memories, Archie tried to assure himself that he was doing the right thing. He'd take his ex over starving to death, the disrespect over being homeless. He'd rather sit still and look pretty than struggle hopelessly.
