i sat down on my bed, thinking about jimin's deal. its just fake dating. "c'mon. you know you love me." imaginary seokjin said from my spinny chair at my desk.
i just ignored him as i laid down on my bed. "the way you--" he started reciting what i wrote in his letter. "y'know, you can do much better. right?"
i look over next to me to see imaginary jimin, smiling at me, his bottom lip caught between his two crooked teeth. i knew then, that i had my decision set.
--
i walked onto the soccer field, where jimin was playing as goalie. the other boys were on the far side of the field anyway so it made it easier to approach him.
"what are you doing here lowell?" he asked, looking behind me at the other players. "let's do this park jimin." i say, holding out my hand.
jimin smiled, his eyes becoming crescent moons, and took my hand. he tugged me towards him and kissed me full on the lips, catching me by surprise. i could feel his smirk as he kissed me.
he pulled away from me and i opened and closed my mouth like a fish. "i-i'm gonna head to the library. i'll see you at lunch i guess." i stuttered as i could feel my face turning red. i walked away as fast as i could to hide my embarassment.
park jimin had kissed me twice now. once i get away from the soccer field, i lean against the wall and put my hand on my chest, feeling my rapid heartbeat.
--
i sat down at the picnic tables, eating some leftover kimbap and kimchi. jimin sat down in front of me, startling me a little. "hey." i said, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.
"so how's this gonna go?" jimin asked. "well let's come up with a contract." i say, and take out a notebook from my bag as i hear jimin laugh.
"really lowell?" i look up at him. "alright fine." he said with a smirk. "but why do we have to have a contract anyway?" he asked.
i put my pen down. "well firstly, i don't want you to kiss me anymore." i almost laughed at the face jimin made as i write "no kissing" at the top of the page.
"that's gotta be the stupidest thing ever lowell." he said. "people are gonna get real suspicious if we can't kiss each other." i tap my pen in my hand.
"well you can put your hand in my back pocket." i say and write as jimin makes a confused face. "you know? from sixteen candles?" i say.
"its the opening image." jimin sighs. "you're so uncultured it actually hurts me." i hear him mutter.
"okay, uhm how about a handwritten note every day? minah always got on my ass for wanting me to slip a note in her locker or in her hand. i just think it'll really bring her on edge." jimin says.
i nod as i write down, "jimin will write jae eun one note every day" on the contract. "we won't tell anyone this right?" i asked.
"duh. first rule of fight club." i look at jimin confused. "you've never seen fight club?" he asked me in disbelief. "okay, after the whatever candles movie--"
"--sixteen candles." i interrupted him. "whatever it is, put down fight club after it." jimin said but grabbed my pen from my hand to write it himself.
i got my pen back and wrote "under no circumstances jae eun and jimin will tell the truth". on the contract. "you have to come to every soccer game and the parties." jimin says and i sigh as i hand him my pen again.
"then you have to drive my sister and i to school every day." i say "then you have to come to the trip to the mountains." jimin says "well that's if we're still together that long." i argue as jimin writes "ski trip" in big letters.
i got my pen back and signed at the bottom of the contract. jimin signed his as i held out my hand. he laughed and took my hand to shake it in agreement.
let's do this then, park.
