Going to war

You wanted to cry, both groups had people you loved and they were about to fight. Both groups slowly walked closer, until there was about half a mile between them. You were dragged along by the men who restrained you before, they tied you to a tree out of sight. Negan wouldn't know you were here until the fight was almost over, this was not going to end well.

You heard the war cries, followed by lots of feet, stampeding towards each other. You would never get the scream and noises out of your head, it was horrific. You wondered where Jess and Cameron were, praying they weren't caught up in the mess unfolding behind you. You wished you could see what was going on, who was winning, if Negan was still alive, Daryl, Jesus, Craig, Heather, none of this was fair. 

"Showtime sweetcheeks" a voice broke through your thoughts, you looked up to see Ezekiel's man, he untied you from the tree and shoved you towards a small group of people, stood in a field full of bodies, there were maybe a hundred people left, both sides combined. 

"Just in time" you heard Maggie laugh "Negan we have someone you care about" she announced as the guy you now knew as Gerry, pushed you to your knees at her feet. You could see both groups were all holding guns, pointed at the others, clearly trying to call a truce without losing anyone else. 

"No" you heard him whisper as his eyes met yours, you looked up at him apologetically. Maggie's gun now trained on your head. 

"This can all end now" she hissed, "Your life for yours Negan"

"What makes you think this girl means that much to me" he replied,

"The wobble in your voice" Rick replied, stepping up next to Maggie.

"You'd kill one of your own" Negan hissed 

"She's not been one of us since the day you stormed through our gates" Jesus growled, hearing him say that hurt.

"How do you think this is going to go down Maggie?" Negan asked 

"You get down on your knees and beg me to spare the woman you love, to take you instead" she smirked, Negan got down on his knees, you began to cry shaking your head, he smiled, you wanted to reach out to him but he was too far away. He glanced at the group behind you, winked and turned his attention back to Maggie. 

"See that's just not going to work for me" he laughed getting to his feet "my girl has lost far too much already and I will not put her through that all over again" hearing him refer to you as 'my girl' in front of so many people made you blush. 

"So you'll let me shoot her?" Maggie asked annoyed that her plan wasn't working. 

"You won't shoot her" Negan replied confidently, training his gun back at Maggie.

"What makes you so sure?" she hissed, 

"The men standing beside you" he answered seriously, you glanced up to see Craig and Daryl either side of her. "I know them and I know they care about her far too much to let you shoot her over someone as insignificant as me. Maggie screamed and clicked the safety off her gun, in response Craig and Daryl turned their guns on her. 

"He's right Maggie we can't let you do this" Daryl whispered. You saw movement behind Negan, it was Heather, she was edging closer, tears running down her face, sad eyes looking into yours. 

"How can you protect her" she yelled "she betrayed us! she told him we would be here!" 

"How Maggie she was with us the entire time" Craig snapped

"It wasn't her" Negan confirmed "I got a visit from someone to warn me but it wasn't her"

*********Flashback Negan POV*****

I was sat at my office desk, running my hands through my hair, desperately trying to come up with a plan to get rid of the threat without so many people dying.

There was a knock at my door,

"What?!" I yelled frustrated, Dwight stepped in the room.

"Negan Cameron is at the gates with another female, she's demanding to see you" he told me, I was confused, Cameron hated me and who could this other female be.

"Let them in" I replied, intrigued. 20 minutes later Dwight knocked again and entered with Cameron, clinging to the leg of a woman I recognised from the hilltop, she was Y/N's friend. 

"Take a seat" I told her, and they both sat on a sofa.

"This is Jess" Dwight told me, I thanked him and asked him to leave.

"What brings you here?" I asked taking a seat opposite,

"Y/N sent us" she started "You're in trouble Negan, Hilltop, Alexandria and the Kingdom are all on they're way to attack, you don't have long, please help us stop this" 

"wow wow wow calm down" I replied running a hand down my face, trying to process what I'd been told. "Why couldn't she come and tell me herself?"

"She was supposed to meet us and didn't show" She explained

"Negan you have to save her" Cameron pleaded, I was shocked that the boys spoke to me.

"Save her?" I asked looking at Jess,

"We think Maggie has her, to use against you" Jess explained, I would feel my rage bubbling inside me. 

"Cameron you remember where your old room is?" I asked and he nodded "Can you take Jess there please and wait until we come back" he stood up and took Jess's hand

"What if you don't come back?" Jess asked as we all stood 

"Oh honey" I smirked "you don't know me very well" 

"Negan can I ask one more thing?" she said just as Cameron tried to pull her out of the room,

"Considering you came all this way to help me, anything" I smiled,

"Bring Craig back with you too" I remembered Craig the guy Y/N had stopped me from hurting "My boyfriend, they've dragged him into this too"

"I'll do my best" I promised, as soon as they left the room I radioed Dwight and prepared my men to go to war.

*****End of Flashback*********

"So are you going to let her go or are you going to force your own men to shoot you?" Negan asked, Ezekiel stepped forward and placed his hand over Maggies, making her lower her gun. 

"It's over Maggie" he told her "the battle is done" then he took your hand and helped you to your feet, kissing it.

"So long fair maiden" he smiled and allows me to run into Negan's arms. 

"Craig is it?" Negan asked, Craig nodded "You need to come with me, I have someone at the Sanctuary who I promised to bring you home to" He looked confused but nodded and followed as both groups retreated, guns still posied as long as they needed to be. I smiled at Daryl as we walked away, he only nodded.
