Boarding School AU (Clem is at Ericson and arrived with AJ)Clementine aimlessly surfs the internet, asking Google mundane questions she couldn't care less about. Having no one to spend the weekends with was beginning to take a tole on her. Sure, AJ was around...but not that often. Ever since him and Tenn became friendlier he's been MIA. Off playing firemen or drawing his teachers in weird getups.
Clem had herself to blame really. She hadn't tried to talk with anyone when she came, and when people approached her she would promptly sink into the shadows. Her regret is swiftly building inside as she wishes she had anyone to talk to.
Bam, bam, bam!
Clem stirs up from laying in her bed, eyeing the door wearily. Dinner was over, she has no more chores to do today, so who would be trying to find her? Deciding to hide out, Clem remains silent, begging the person on the other side to leave.
"Look Clementine, I know you're in there. You're light's on."
"Shit." Clem curses herself, trailing a hand down her face with a sigh.
"Let me in already, Willy's headed this way and I don't want to hear about how he...ugh you know."
Clem bites her lip in thought, the voice behind the door belongs to Violet, a blonde haired girl in her late teens, slightly taller than herself - and not someone she's ever had the pleasure of speaking to.
"If you don't let me in we'll both be in trouble."
Clementine begrudgingly drags herself off her mattress and lazily opens her door. The blonde stares for a moment, clearly stunned as her cheeks rush with boiling heat. That's when Clementine realises she was only in her sports bra from practicing her self-defence earlier in the evening. Her own cheeks flush as she grabs hold of Violet's jacket and roughly pulls her in, slamming the door after her.
"Crap, did Willy see? I don't need any...concerning repercussions." Violet remains silent for a moment before swallowing hard.
"No." She mumbles, attempting to masquerade her breathlessness. Clem shrugs her Ericson Boarding School hoodie over her shoulders, leaving Violet full view of her toned abdomen for a brisk moment.
"So what did you need so badly that you had to break my door down?" Clem tries to cover-up her embarrassment with a nonchalant demeanour.
"Miss Writt wants me to 'Be a Good Samaritan,' and 'Help those that are new to fit in.' Then, before I could protest, practically threatened to fail me if I didn't come talk to you." Violet grumbles angrily, folding her arms as she leans against Clem's desk. Clem pouts, annoyed Miss Writt is forcing Violet upon her...instead of Violet just wanting to be with her.
"So what, do I have to tell her how great you are or something?" Clem questions, keeping her tone cold. Violet is unfazed however, seeing through her front.
"Not exactly, she watched me come in her, said I have to spend the night or she won't count it." At this, Clem's eyebrows raise, her eyes widening. "Hey, I'm not that bad to be around...right?"
"No no, it's not that..." Clem mutters, beginning to pace the room. "This is exactly why I avoid the stupid weekend team building exercises." Violet watches helplessly as Clementine begins to rant angrily to herself. "Miss Writt can stuff a cork screw right up her-"
"Woah there," Violet blocks Clem's path, placing her hands at either side of her. "Let's not piss off the teachers, she could be listening in." She chuckles, trying to lighten the mood. Clem remains stiff in her grasp, like stone. Vi lets go, backing away a couple steps before continuing. "Sorry, you just...you were making me dizzy."
"No I'm sorry, you probably think I hate you or something." Clem rubs her temples soothingly, instinctively lowering the blinds on the window as the night grows darker. "I'm sure you're cool, I'm just not great with-"
"People?" Violet finished for her, a smirk on her face. Clem mirrors her as her body quickly dissolves the anxiety that had built. Promptly replacing it with a flood of warm.
"Yeah."
"Me neither." Violet follows Clem, taking a seat hesitantly on her bed. "But hey, one night shouldn't be so bad, right?" Clementine looks Violet in the eyes for the first time, searching for even the slightest hint of hostility. However, all she finds is an endearing, worrisome, glossed over gaze. "I brought crisps...just don't mention it to anyone." Clem quirks her brow, amused. "Don't need people questioning how I smuggled them in." She winks, growing more confident under Clementines encouraging gaze.
"Flavour?"
"Salt and Vinegar or Picked Onion?" She holds up the purple and blue bags, dangling them temptingly in front of the sixteen year old. Clem Swiss the Pickled Onion bag, ripping them open simultaneously with Violet. "Looks like I got the right flavour."
"I haven't had one of these in months, you don't want to know how bad I crave crisps around midnight." Clem giggles softly into herself. "Let's just say, I'm lucky I don't have a roommate." Violet giggles timidly, attempting to muffle herself with her sleeve. Clem pouts before swiftly lowering the blonde's arm, shaking her head disapprovingly.
"What?"
"Don't cover your mouth," she huffs grumpily. "Your laugh's cute. Too cute to hide." The same ruby red blush resurfaces in both girls' cheeks as she hastily turn away from each other, a nervous tension filling the room.
(Ahem - *Gay Panic*)
"Thanks..." Violet mumbles, shifting uncomfortably on the end of the bed. The two remain silent, the only sound being that of their rumply crisp packets.
The night seems to fly by from there on, as Clem and Violet fall into a safe, relaxing dynamic with one another. They even spoke of why they were sent here and by who. Two strangers being forced into conversation transformed into a strong blossoming friendship.
"Hey, can I tell you something?" Vi asks, chucking the empty packet - now shaped into a ball - above her head and catching it in a smooth rhythm.
"Sure." Clem grins, tracing the letter 'D' of her hat absently.
"I actually had a huge crush on you when you first came here." Clem halts her actions as butterflies erupt in her stomach. Her breath catches in her through as her cheeks flush. "Shit, sorry...shit. I didn't think you'd...shit."
"No it's okay." Clem regains her composure, looking Violet in the eye once again. "I kinda liked you too, but I didn't know you so..." Clem shrugs and the fall silent for a moment, comfortable.
"You know me now, right?" Violet tilts her head, smirking suggestively.
"I suppose I do." Clem mirrors her playful grin, placing her hat to her side. "And you?"
"Oh, I don't if I'd say I know you." Violet hums, her voice deepening slightly as Clem crawls closer before sitting comfortably again. "Other than your name, and the fact that you're unhealthily obsessed with that hat, I don't know anything about you."
"Really?"
"All I know is, I'm comfortable with...with this." She motions between them, causing a goofy grin to embrace Clem's face. "And you're the first person here I can honestly say that to.
"Ditto." Clem's cheeky grin resurfaces.
"Ditto? Really."
"I told you I'm not good with people."
