Chapter 20: The Warning

Here we were, in the girls bathroom of The Four Roses snorting lines of cocaine off of a CD case Bria always carried in her purse for reasons like this. My first line of cocaine felt like my heart was racing and thumping against my chest, a sick feeling of anxiety in my stomach making me wonder if I was going to throw up or not.. but Bria convinced me that I wouldn't get sick as "Heco's shit is good shit". At first, my hand trembled when I'd hold the rolled up paper bill and use the other hand to hold one side of my nose shut while I snorted the white powder.

The more I snorted lines of cocaine, the more harder it was to stay drunk. It was like these lines of white powder were sobering me up even though I've already had way too much to drink. Either way, I was experiencing the numbing feeling I wanted. Anything felt better than coping with the fact that I really am with a killer... How dumb could I possibly be to believe that all he did was sell drugs? He's a gang leader! and me? Well, I'm a naive, young and stupid girl who's playing with fire.

"You doing okay?" Bria asked as she tapped the contents of the little white baggy out onto the cd case. "You've snorted half a gram to yourself... and you're a beginner." Bria added, pulling out her debit card to chop up the cocaine and form a couple perfect lines along the CD case.

I pulled my hair back out of the way and leaned down towards the CD case, "I'm fine."

"Wanna go get some more drinks?" Bria asked sniffling and wiping away any loose powder that may have been still around her nose as I snorted the couple of lines she made for me.

I nodded, not saying a word. We both looked in the mirror to make sure we looked fine enough to go back out there. We then left the bathrooms and headed down the hallway back out where everyone was drinking. Joe stormed up to us, looking like he had just seen a ghost. A sick feeling in my gut twisted and turned as I looked at him.. thinking about what he did to Jack's friend, Brendan.

"Billy's pissed..." Jack warned me in a whisper as walked beside Bria and I. "Were you doing coke?" Joe asked making me come to a sudden halt.

I nodded, "Does it seem obvious?" I asked wincing. Joe shrugged and sighed as we walked over to the two tables pushed together that almost all of Billy's boys were. Except Baggy, Heco and Billy... as they were probably still out selling for Bones. I sighed as I sat down beside Bodie, who's eyes were wide and his expression showed he was unimpressed with me.

"What?" I grumbled.

"Billy is beyond pissed off. Where have you been? He's under a lot of stress lately. Bones has a new contact from where you come from, looking to get Bones involved in moving his drug and weapon cartel over here to Boston." Bodie explained, silencing everyone at the table.

"Oh that's cool. That's lovely. So that means you guys will be doing initiation killings in Detroit too?" I hissed, putting my head in my hands.

Everyone at the table shifted their eyes over to Joe, who looked appalled and sketched out. He gulped as Bodie grabbed my upper arm, forcing me to look up at him. I winced at how tight Bodie's grip on my arm was. He stood up and brought me up with him, leaning in beside my ear, "You best not be throwing that in Billy's face when he gets here. You knew what you were getting in to the moment you moved in with him. Now take it from me, I've known Billy since we was kids... don't fucking piss him off." He said in a harsh whisper, letting go of my arm and nodding at me as we both sat back down.

Amanda came over to the table with a tray full of shots of whiskey. He seemed tense and as if she could sense the tension between all of us now. She didn't even so much as say one word to any of us, she just placed all the glasses on the table and hurried away from our table. We all shrugged, threw back the shots and sighed.
