Eight weeks later:
"Wait for colored bands to appear. Depending on the concentration of hCG in the test specimen, positive results may be observed in as short as 40 seconds." I read out loud. I sighed loudly as I sat the pregnancy test on the bathroom counter and paced around in circles for the next 40 seconds.
"Thank God..." I sighed in relief as I held up the pregnancy test and stared at the blue negative sign.
I had enough stress on my shoulders lately. Billy was constantly on my ass about who the person was that Tommy and Spink watched beat the fuck out of Joe. It wasn't easy to explain to Billy that Joe was just a friend of mine from back home who happened to be best friends with Brendan and was there the night Billy made Joe do the gang initiation. Luckily for me, Billy bought it and I didn't even end up having to tell him that Jack was my ex boyfriend of like...ever. Or the fact that I cheated on him with Jack. I've also been super sick lately, hence the reasoning behind taking a pregnancy test. I've been missing work because of how sick I've been and Heco got in a fight with a rival gang: B street. So Billy's been a real peach lately.
"Amber?" Billy called out from outside the bathroom door, lightly knocking on the door.
I quickly shoved the pregnancy test into the garbage can before opening the door, "Yeah?" I asked with a fake smile.
"You alright?" Billy huffed.
"I'm feeling better, yeah." I replied with a weak smile.
"You hungry?" He asked dully.
"I'm always hungry." I replied truthfully.
"I'm makin' food." Billy stated as he wrapped his one arm around me and kissing my forehead.
"You... You're cooking?" I asked suspiciously.
"If you can do it, I can fuckin' do it." Billy replied with a smirk. "Ya sick, so I'm takin' care of ya."
I rolled my eyes, smiling at him before he took me by the hand and led me out to the kitchen. I yawned as I sat down at the table, one of my legs up so that my arm could rest on my knee. Billy went over to the stove and dropped a piece of bread in the frying pan. I giggled a little as I picked up my spoon and dipped it in the bowl of soup Billy had placed out on the table for me.
Billy looked over his shoulder at me as he heard me giggle, "What?" He hissed.
"That's not how you make grilled cheese." I giggled.
"I know. You make it the stupid way, so I don't make it that way." Billy replied, covering up the fact that he can't cook grilled cheese if his life depended on it. He grinned slyly as he proceeded to make me a burnt grilled cheese. I ate my soup and waited for him to be done cooking my grilled cheese. He placed it on a plate in front of me. "I ain't no fuckin' chef."
I looked down at the almost black grilled cheese, pulling the bread apart and noticing the cheese was barely melted. I looked up at Billy and snorted in laughter. He narrowed his eyes and glared down at me. My giggled turned to a laughter fit.
"I love you." I giggled as I shoved the plate of black grilled cheese away from me.
"Ungrateful." Billy joked as he sat down at the table across from me. He picked up his pack of cigarettes and pulled one out and placed it between his lips, looking up at me and nodding towards my soup bowl. "Eat somethin' at least."
"If I eat... can I come with you to the office and see how you guys cook your shit?" I tried to bargain with Billy. I was curious to see how drugs were made.. I don't know why.
