Chapter Seven: Confinement

Kaitlyn's Perspective:

I woke up from the sound of an earth-shattering scream. My ears rang, and I sat up from my tensed state of slumber. My muscles were sore, and my lips were cracked from thirst. Instead of being restrained by rope, I was now confined by a rectangular cell, just large enough to extend my legs.

My captor left-maybe a couple hours ago. All the while I spent attempting to escape. All fruitless attempts, obviously. I spent a good span of time digging, only equipped with my fingernails, to find something-anything-sharp around the space. I only found a round pebble, which was unsuccessful in evading my prison.

The screams came closer, intensifying every second. I crawled to the bars, and grasped my fingers around the iron poles. I looked around the corner, and saw a familiar face.

"Iris?!" I asked, bewildered. She was chained in zip-ties, still wearing her CCPN* work attire. Her eyes widened when she saw me.

"Kaitlyn!" She struggled away from the man restraining her, kicking and flailing her legs against his strong body. He was almost three times bigger than me and Iris, so any hit he took, he brushed it off like it was nothing. The man wasn't the one is charge, likely one of his minions doing the dirty work. All you could see was his blank, ruthless expression while he maneuvered Iris into the cell right next to mine. He locked her in with a minuscule key, and shoved it in his pocket. That key was possibly our only way out of here, but he treated it with so little care.

I rested my head against the wall, "How'd they capture you?"

"I'd just finished my report at the station, and signaled the camera man to cut. But instead, he came closer and... that's all I remember. Everything went dark after that." Iris trailed off, "You?"

"It's very hazy, but I think that Cisco called me. I was about to pick up, but someone came from behind me and put a bag over my head." I frowned in confusion, "Then, I ended up here."

"Do you think we'll get out of here?" she asked. All hope seemed to have vanished from her voice.

I turned more towards the wall, and put my hand up to the stone, "Of course. Barry always finds a way. You know that. We'll be fine."

"Yeah, we'll be fine," she said. However, it wasn't certainty that followed her words, but doubt and fear.

I tried to reassure her, to tell her that he will come. That he will save the day, just like he always does. But then I realized, words meant nothing when you don't really mean them.
