Iris' Perspective:

I opened my eyes groggily, and immediately snapped them back shut. The bright, fluorescent lights burned my eyes, and my vision doubled, dizzying my brain. My head throbbed inside my skull, screaming in pain and exhaustion. I re-opened my eyes and blinked rapidly, catching glimpses of the room I was in.

I was laying in a hospital bed, although I didn't remember getting here. I didn't feel any immediate pain besides my searing headache, until I realized I couldn't feel my legs. I pounded my fists against them, but couldn't feel it. I tried to move my toes, but nothing happened. It was such a simple motion, yet my face contorted in effort. My eyes started to swell with tears. I yanked the scratchy bed sheets from the mattress and prepared for the worst.

Nothing had changed-at least, nothing noticeable. They were just as muscular and healthy as yesterday. I peered over at the beeping machine beside me; the EKG showed my constant heart rate. It looked fine, I guess. But, I wasn't a doctor. Kaitlyn was. Pictures appeared in my mind, creating a story of unrecognizable events:

I was trapped in my cell, aching to escape. Kaitlyn stood in front of me, but it wasn't actually her. Her hair was a frosty white, and her lips an icy blue. Her appearance startled me, but I still pleaded her to help me. In response, she let out a rather evil laugh, and pointed her palms toward me. Ice escaped her hands, hurdling toward my direction. I screamed in terror, and froze in place.

I gasped out of my dazed state, nearly knocking over my IV

I gasped out of my dazed state, nearly knocking over my IV. Suddenly, my door swung open, revealing a friendly face.

Barry's Perspective:

I was back in my normal attire, a sweater and jeans, while I spoke to the physician assigned to Iris' case.

   "Mr. Allen-"

"Yes?" I responded quickly, too quickly. I blushed, "My apologies."

"Yes, well... Iris was emitted to the E.R. a significant amount of time after her-um-accident. She was deprived from oxygen for quite a while when we got to her. It's a miracle she's even breathing in that room," The doctor spoke, fiddling with his stethoscope.

"Doctor, is she going to be all right?" I asked impatiently.

  "I'm terribly sorry, Mr. Allen."

I tilted my head towards the ground in despair. "Just...tell me."

"Her paralysis is permanent. I think you knew the stakes when you brought her here."

I walked away from him, trying not to erupt in fury and regret. I peered through Iris' hospital room window. She laid unconscious of her bed, her head leaned to one side. Her hair curled around her chin, framing her facial structure. I wanted to offer everything to her. I despised myself because the one thing she needed, I couldn't give.
