Back in Earmon the army agreed with King Hjalmar and Hertha decided to not agree to accept King Edwin's offer. When King Hjalmar was gone they've been building the defences of Earmon and getting to know the areas of Earmon very well from scouts and patrols. Hertha and Stigr were taking a stroll around Earmon and admiring how the process of building a settlement. "Look at what we accomplished brother," Hertha said with a huge smile on her face. "Yes sister we accomplished so much," Stigr said with worry in his voice. "What is brother," Hertha sighed as she looked at Stigr's face filled with worry. "What if they attack again," Stigr asked as he stopped walking. "What if our defences are not that good and they attack harder and smarter this time. They know how we fight now," Stigr continued as he around him.
"And we also know how they fight Stigr," Hertha said as she walked up to Stigr. "All we have to do is outsmart them. Be two steps ahead of them. We will brother," Hertha continued. "Let's hope the gods share your confidence in us," Stigr said as he continued. "They do little brother," Hertha said with a smile as she followed him. "These people we're fighting don't have the right leadership to defeat us. They're kingdom is falling apart from betrayal and weakness," Hertha continued with pride. Six days later the commander of King Edwin's army made camp outside with some soldiers, Fulton was among them. They were far enough that the vikings couldn't detect them. "They're more dug in than before," Fulton said as he looked at Earmon. "Yes they are my prince," The commander said. "But I have a plan to defeat them," The commander continued.
"And what is this plan," Fulton asked with doubts about the commander's plan. "It's to cut off their communication from their scouts," The commander replied. "Let them wonder with fear of what happened. Then attack while they're distracted," The commander continued. "What if they don't wonder with fear," Fulton asked. "What if they keep calm and know how to push back," Fulton continued. "They won't because they're foreigners to this land," The commander replied as he looked at Fulton. "They don't know anything about the land like we do. We can use that to our advantages," The commander continued with a wicked smile. After a few minutes the commander went inside his tent while Fulton stood on a hill looking at Earmon.
He was starting to regret his decision to not tell his father about this mission. He was mad at his mother for putting too much confidence in the commander and her lover. He knew the commander was over his head doing this by himself. His father may be a coward and fool sometimes but he knows his battle plans. He is always there with the commander making the battle plans. These warriors are just new to them and they have never seen anyone fight like they do. The next day the commander sent out Fulton with some soldiers to hunt down the scouts. They were hiding behind the tree on the side of the road to Earmon. Most of the soldiers had bows and arrows with After a few seconds of getting into their positions, ten scouts finally got close enough to attack.
Fulton was the first to attack the scouts and killed one of them by stabbing him in the throat. The second soldier fired an arrow at the other scout. Fulton was slaughtering the scouts all by himself with his sword. The archers killed three more before Fulton could get to them. "Well done my prince," One of the soldiers said as he patted Fulton on the back. "Your father and mother are proud of you Prince Fulton," The other soldier said with a smile as he walked by. Fulton was proud of himself for what he did today. He took Hertha advice and words to heart and learned from his first battle. "Clean up this mess and take their weapons with you," Fulton said as he looked at the dead bodies. "Our men could use them for themselves," Fulton continued as he walked away.
"Yes Prince Fulton," The soldier said as they did what he commanded of them. Back at camp the soldiers were proud of him for leading a successful attack on the vikings. "Well done Fulton, i'm proud of you," The commander said as he sat down by the campfire. "The soldiers in camp are talking about how well you fought today. Maybe we have a chance of beating them," The commander continued "It's just one battle we won commander," Fulton said as he grabbed a jug of water to fill his cup. "Not the war against these savages. Don't get too cocky now," Fulton continued as he handed the jug of water to the commander. "I was just congratulating you on today," The commander said as he took the jug of water. "Commander victories are hard to come by these days. It's best to celebrate them while you can," The commander continued as he filled his cup with water.
Two day later back in Earmon news of the missing scouts got to King Hjalmar who was in church of Amos. "Okay so they made their move," King Hjalmar said as he sat down by Hertha and Stigr. "And now," Stigr asked as he looked at his father. "Now we prepare for an attack from these Earleens," King Hjalmar replied. "Hertha make sure our warriors are ready to defend this town," King Hjalmar continued as he looked at Hertha. "Yes father," Hertha said as she left the church. "Stigr i'm going to need you to tell the blacksmith to make more arrows for warriors," King Hjalmar said as he turned his attention to Stigr. "Right away father," Stigr said as he left the church. After Hertha told the wariors to get ready in case of attack she headed back to the church of Amos.
King Hjalmar was waiting for Hertha inside the church of Amos. "Everything is in order father," Hertha said as she sat down where she slept. "That's good to hear," King Hjalmar said. "Where do you think we should place the archers," King Hjalmar continued. "You should split them up into two groups," Hertha replied. "Then place the first group on the left tower that we build and the second group on the right tower that we fixed. While we attack on the ground," Hertha continued. "And we'll exit the two houses on the right," King Hjalmar said. "Their camp seems to be by the hill if they killed our scouts," Hertha said. "Because the hunting party usually comes the same way but they decided to split up and go the shorter way," Hertha continued. "So they will be here in a day or two," King Hjalmar said.
"We blocked the tunnel this time," Hertha said. "They're going to have to come from the side door," Hertha continued. "Good, now all we do is wait to attack," King Hjalmar said. The next day Fulton was in his tent praying to his god Amos. "Please Amos give us the strength to defeat these savages," Futon said as he was on his knees with his head down. "You don't need to pray Fulton," The commander said as he walked inside the tent. "We're going to win today," The commander continued. "Did Amos tell you that," Fulton asked as he lifted his head up. "No she did not," The commander replied with irritation in his voice. "Then i'm going to pray to her for luck and success," Fulton said as he stood up. "Let's go my prince," The commander said with mockery in his voice. Fulton ignored the commander and focused on the battle to come. A few hours later the commander and his army arrived at the side door.
