A few minutes later King Edwin and the commander came out of the war room. "So we attack in three days," King Edwin said as he exited the war room. "That gives us time to organize our army because they've got the place well defended," King Edwin continued. "Yes my king," The commander said as he bowed and left. "You can have a bigger army if you wait and call upon my father," Queen Ada said. "Your father lives four days away," King said. "It would take four days to call upon and another to get here. By then the raiders fortress will be impregnable. So no I will not," King Edwin continued as he walked away.
A day later King Hjalmar's men who were patrolling the outside of the town came back with a report for King Hjalmar. Hertha and Stigr were with King Hjalmar who made the church their new home. "What news do you have for me," King Hjalmar asked as he sat down in a chair. "We saw four Earleen scouts in the area," One of the men replied. "I think they're trying to find a weakness in our defences," The man continued. "And did they find one," King Hjalmar asked with curiosity on his face. "Yes there's a underground tunnel entrance below the town," The other man replied. "We should close the entrance of the tunnel," Stigr said. "No we shouldn't," Hertha said. "No," Stigr asked as he looked at his sister.
"I would let them come and we would ambush them from behind," Hertha replied as a servant brought them smoked fish served with mead. "We leave and hide somewhere not far away from Earmon. Once they enter and think they're safe that's when we attack," Hertha continued as she started to eat the smoked fish. "Where should we hide Hertha," Stigr asked as he took a sip of mead. "I think we should hide behind the town," Hertha replied. "The hill that this town sits on its large. I say that we use the size of it to our advantage. And go up more so our archers have aim. Also we can come around and attack them from the side," Hertha continued as she ate the smoked fish.
"That's not a bad plan Hertha," King Hjalmar said with a smile. "I'll take it under consideration," King Hjalmar continued as he drank his mead. "Thank you father," Hertha said with a big smile on her face. "In the meantime get your weapons sharpened by the blacksmith and prepare for battle," King Hjalmar said as he drank the rest of his mead and left the church. After their talk Hertha and Sigr went to the blacksmith in his new shop who was working on a helmet and an axe. When Hertha and Sigr he had a big welcoming smile on his face. "I'm glad you two are here," The blacksmith said. "Here I made gifts for you two," The blacksmith continued as he handed Hertha the axe and Sigr the helmet.
"Thank you for these generous gifts," Hertha said as she sheathed her new axe. "We actually came here to get our weapons sharpened," Stigr said, holding his helmet in his other hand. "What's going on," Olin asked as he walked up to Hertha and Sigr. "The men who were on patrol told father that Earleen scouts were scouting the area and found a weakness in the defences," Stigr replied as he handed his axe to the blacksmith. "Now we have prepared for an attack. Hertha already came up with a plan and was just waiting for father's approval," Stigr continued as Hertha gave her sword to the blacksmith.
In King Edwin's castle the scouts reported back what they saw in Earmon. He was in his bedroom with his guards protecting him. "This is good news," King Edwin said as he started to get dressed for the day. He was a long woolen green shirt and a long black cloth trousers which was held by a sash. On top of his he was wearing a three quarter coat with a belt. On his feet, he wore white socks and black long leather boots. "Guard tell my son I want to speak to him," King Edwin said as he turned to look at the guard. "Tell him I'll be in the dining room," King Edwin continued as he left the bedroom. "Yes my king," The guard said as he bowed and left to find Fulton.
He was in his room sitting on a chair at a small round table talking to his mother. He was wearing a long woolen blue shirt with a black jacket and a long brown cloth trousers which was held by a sash. On top of his he was wearing a three quarter coat with a belt. On his feet, he wore black socks and black long leather boots. Queen Ada was wearing She was wearing a long red dress. Over the dress she wore a long woolen tunic, a little like an apron. It was held up by a pair of brooches. On top of her dress she was wearing a three quarter coat with a belt. On her feet, she wore white socks and with white slippers.
"My Prince Fulton, your father King Ewin wants to see you," The guard said as bowed. "He's in the dining room waiting for you," The Guard continued as he stood back up. "Thank you, you may take your leave," Fulton said as he stood up from the chair. "My Queen," The guard said as bowed to Queen Ada before leaving the room. "What does he want," Queen asked as she stood up with Fulton. "I don't know, mother let's go find out," Fulton replied as he headed towards the door. When they arrived King Edwin was eating by himself. The servants served him eggs, potatoes, and blood saugues. They gave him wine to have with his breakfast.
"You wanted to speak with me father," Fulton asked as he sat down at the dining table. "Yes, it's about the plan to take back Earmon," King Edwin replied as he started to eat his blood sausage. "And I want you to help me take it when the commander," King Edwin continued. "Really," Fulton asked with a big smile. "I won't let you down father," Fulton continued as the servant served him eggs, potatoes, and blood saugues. "No, you can't let him go," Queen Ada said with worry in her voice. "He's too young for fighting in war. Fulton's not ready to go out there and fight in battle," Queen Ada continued as she waved the servant away. "You don't know that mother," Futon said with anger in her voice.
"It's just that you're my only child my love," Queen Ada said with a light smile. "I don't want to lose you," Queen Ada continued as she tried to caress Fulton's. "That's not true mother," Fulton whispered in his mother's ear. "You just want to stay in power as queen. If I die father will replace you since you haven't had anymore children," Fulton continued. As he leaned away his mother could see the wicked smile on his face. She looked at her husband King Edwin and he didn't pay attention. He was lost in thoughts as he's most of their marriage. "He'll be fine my love," King Edwin said as he looked at his wife. "Plus he'll be with the commander. I'll make sure of it," King Edwin continued as he took a sip. "Servant bring me some wine," Queen Ada yelled. The servant hurried and filled up a cup for Queen Ada. As The servant handed her the she snached it out of their hand. The moment the cup reached her mouth the wine was already gone.
The next day King Hjalmar went with Hertha's plan. They waited for the men who were on patrol to come back and tell if they saw Earleen forces coming to Earmon. One of the men came back and told them that the Earleen forces are three hours away from Earmon. King Hjalmar ordered his army to get into position. The archers were on top of the hill were they had a good view of the city. King Hjalmar, Hertha, Stigr, and Olin were at the side of the town waiting for the archer to fire their arrows. The Earmon arrived by the tunnel feeling cocky, thinking they had the upper hand. One of the soldiers opens the gate to the tunnel.
The commander entered first and the rest followed. When they entered the town it was deserted and so silent that they could hear their own heartbeats. "It's so quiet," Fulton said as he examined the town. "Too quiet," The commander said as he walked around the town with caution. "Maybe they left," One of the soldiers said with hope. "Would you leave this town if you know it's great for a fortress," Another guard asked as he looked around him. A few seconds later arrows fired down on them and killed four of them. The rest raised their shield.
