The dance floor of the Gnarly Barley was taken over by a pair dressed in purple and red garb as the funk-drenched sounds of The Whisper's "And the Beat Goes On" filled the air. While Sir Grapefellow and Baron Von Redberry were presented as arch rivals when their respective cereals were released, Nick and Sara were making the enemies look like heated lovers with just how fancy and risque their disco moves were. The attending students were in awe, some so impressed they were stunned, while for others they were so embarrassed they just couldn't look away. To Nick and Sara though, it didn't matter. It was as if the room was empty when they were dancing and they only cared about each other. It was a high that was almost better than pot.

"Oh yeah, there's my dancing queen and king!" the dance's deejay shouted through his mic, pointing to the two and smiling. It was the same man from the closed disco shop in the mall and the defunct Discotheque at the bowling alley.

A pair of cleats smacked against the newly waxed gym floor of McKinley High, scratching the shit out of the surface and at times gouging it and ripping small pieces out. Lindsay stood in front of the refreshment table, dropping two quarters in the donation box and grabbing a drink for herself and Eli. She didn't dress up for the event as much as she could have, but going as Quake meant she really didn't need to. The shoes, an old miner's helmet with a built-in light that she "borrowed" from an abandoned, haunted mining shaft, a red t-shirt, purple cape and a regular pair of jeans captured the look nicely. Rival cereal mascots were a theme of the evening, mainly because they were a prevalent marketing tactic in the 60s and 70s. Opposite of Lindsay's Quake was Eli's Quisp, a simple costume that consisted of a green, velour jumpsuit, a multi-colored propeller cap and a bubble gun that Eli would neatly holster in the belt of his jumpsuit.

"Here ya go, Eli," Lindsay said as she handed Eli his cup of punch.

Eli, who had been doing a little dance to the music playing, shuffling from side to side, took the drink and smiled gratefully at Lindsay. Eli's smile was unique in that he seemed to use his whole face to display the expression. The ends of his mouth rose high into his cheeks, causing them to puff up further and, because of this, his eyes were nearly squinted shut every time. "Thanks! That's so nice! I was just working up a sweat, so this should help."

Lindsay returned his smile and took a sip of her drink, watching Nick and Sara dance and wondering what it would have been like if they were still a couple and Sara was written off the show.

Suddenly someone injected themselves between her and Eli. It was a dumb jock and, from the smell of it, he'd been drinking heavily. He was tipsy and had already vomited on himself at some point, streaks of puke ran down his shirt and pants, spatters of it even coating his letterman jacket. The jerk wasn't even in a costume.

"Hey, babe," he spoke to Lindsay through a burp, blowing the nauseating fumes from his mouth, "why are you with this loser? Come with me and I'll let you ride my joystick all night." He tried to put his arm around her shoulders but she brushed it off.

"Eli?" she said, leaning forward to look at her date. His smile was replaced with a frown and Lindsay felt her heart break a little at the sight. When she gained his attention, she pointed to the ceiling, stating, "This guy wants a better view."

Eli's grin immediately returned and he removed his bubble gun from his belt, aiming it at the jock and pulling the trigger. A gigantic bubble emerged from the toy and encapsulated the hulking mass of douchebaggery, instantly beginning to float itself and its captive up to the highest point of the gymnasium. The jock began to yell and beat on all sides of the bubble, but it was no use. The globule wouldn't break and his voice couldn't be heard outside of it. As his bubble drifted, it bumped against another and he looked on in shock as there were five more of his meathead brothers enclosed in their own bubbles.
