The top of the water sparkles, the reflection of the moon casting onto it. I slowly slip my feet into the cold water, shuddering momentarily. The water splashes up against the side of the pool, creating little ripples around my legs.

I crane my neck up, looking to the bright moon, sitting in the sky. It's a new moon tonight. I'm not usually one to think about things that are too far fetched. Like whether the earth is flat and that the government is hiding many, many secrets from us. But, I do believe that the moon does have some kind of influence or effect on human behaviour. My behaviour at least. I feel more at peace when looking at the moon. Maybe it's just my mind playing games. Maybe I just want to believe that the moon is some spiritual beacon that guides all of us through life. I remember my Dad once telling me that the Romans and the Greeks actually thought the moon was some type of Goddess.

Yeah, that is pretty far fetched.

In a way, the moon is my spiritual beacon, though. It helps me focus in on something, clear my mind from any worries or stresses. The moon makes me feel not so alone. When I look up at the moon, there are people all over the world that could be looking at it too.

People always look forward to a full moon. With a full moon hanging over us in the sky, everything feels more magical, even if you don't believe in magic.

But I look forward to when the moon takes a hiatus, a new moon. The stars take their one chance to shine even brighter, popping out for everyone to see. There is something so calm about the night of a new moon, something renewing, as though nothing is expected from us and we're allowed to simply "be."

A new moon signifies a new beginning. Its the time for a clean slate, a time to gather your thoughts and possibly start fresh.

Sometimes we all need a new moon.
