Chapter Thirty Six: Original Mates pt. One
Cade
***After we finished lunch Daisy and I walked around a little more and I noticed she was just as excited to be seeing the town just as much as she was when I showed her around the city that first day I brought her here.
We were walking by one of the parks and I stopped so we could rest a moment before I took her to the pack house.
There was one thing I had been thinking about since I had asked Daisy to be my Luna.
I had to tell her about my mate.
No it wasn't something I was particularly fond of thinking about much less talking about, but if I want her to be my Luna I needed her to know me entirely.
I readied myself to tell her but she looked at me, "Hey I was talking to Blithe last night, I know it's not any of my business but she had mentioned that she turned Ieston's proposals down...why would she intentially turn down her mates proposals?"
"Oh..." I sounded a little caught off guard, it was an odd topic to bring up but whatever. "Well Blithe and Ieston aren't mates, she turned him down because she wanted to wait for her mate...but whoever he was, well he never came and Ieston never stopped and I guess she admired his determination or whatever ...I mean she came tome and asked what I thought...I told her he must've loved her enough to keep asking and she finally accepted him."
"And Ieston's never told you why he was so adament on marrying her?" She asked.
I shook my head, "To be honest I've never really given it much thought...I mean we used to all hangout so I just sort thought it was mostly because he was already comfortable with her, he knew her and so he really didn't have to start over with another girl."
"Yeah, maybe...Blithe said he had a brother that died?"
I nodded, "A Step brother, Benny, He was about a year older than Blithe...we always knew he had Bone cancer, and His parents had hoped that with his shift he'd be able to heal from it...but instead the shift worked in progressing the cancerous tumors in his bones, we visited him all the time in the hospital but Ieston took it really hard, hardly ever left the hospital, Benny past away almost a month after he first shifted."
I sighed as I remembered that time.
"It was weird, Ieston had sort of distanced himself from Blithe and I for a while, but when he came back we went back to normal, Blithe shifted and then he started pursuing her."
She sat there almost as if absorbing all of the new information to her.
"But speaking of mates...I feel like it's only right for me to let you know about mine."
Her eyes went a little wide. "Cade are you ready to talk about that?"
"I mean...I am ready and I think you have to know...not to sway your decision or anything but just so that you know about it from me and no one else." I said. "And the truth is I had a mate."

Daisy
I sat there a little in awe that he would just bring up mates.
Then again perhaps somewhere in my subconcsious maybe I want him to alk about it as I had brought it up when asking bout his cousin and Beta.
"I didn't know her very well...you see she was older than me which in turn caused her to shift before me and before she even met me she had become wild...and the thing about wild wolves...they don't tend to keep their mates as wild wolves have a fight or flight mentality and a high self preservation instinct...one day I was walking home from work with a friend and we happened to cross her wolf." He said and sighed, "I completely forgot all about my friend when My wolf sensed hers and claimed her as our mate...she shifted, we talked and she told she didn't need or want me... I don't know what else she said but that was all I remember before her wolf took over again and she took off back into the woods."
I could hardly believe what I was hearing...I wanted to know who in their right mind would just turn their backs on their mate? But of course I had been in a similar boat.
"So did she reject you?" I asked.
He hung his head before he shook it, "...she didn't reject me." He sighed.
I wasn't expecting him to say he had rejected her...but I could tell this was something that had weighed heavily on him for many years as even now he couldn't bring himself to look at me out of shame.
"You see my father was still Alpha when he found out about my wild mate and he wanted to ensure that his pack was left with strong leadership when he stepped down, it was my father's last order as Alpha...He ordered me to reject her because he knew that no Wild Wolf would ever submit to being the Luna of an Alpha and be capable of putting the pack before herself."
I sat there and listened on as he filled me in.
"...I mean everything I've been taught and learned about Mates was that there is nothing more powerful than the instant pull between two mates...but their is something stronger...the bond between a Were and their wolf."
I knew this was true.
I knew it was true because before anyone else you always have your wolf, they're a part of you...for a Were without their wolf is like a person without a soul.
I felt horrible, I wanted to comfort him and he looked up at me, his eyes held sadness but then he wore a small barely there smile.
"So I waited for her to come, it took me a while and eventually a couple weeks later as I was walking back from work once again she showed up and I did what I had to by order of my Alpha...in a lot of way I honestly think I put off looking for a Luna just to spite him...then I met you."
I smiled.
He pat my leg and stood up, "Enough with the heavy shit for now though." He said as he held his hands out to me. "Let's get going."
I put my hands in his and he helped me up from the bench we had stopped and sat down to talk.
