I lightly push on Grayson's chest after I hear the strange sound. Once our lips disconnect, my eyes move toward the hallway.

"Did you hear that?" I whisper as I look at the glass door.

"Hear what?" He turns his head.

"We can't be doing this here, somebody's going to see us." I know that for a fact.

"I'm sorry." He mumbles and backs away from me.

"Look, I need to figure things out with Ethan." Here I am, breaking his heart again.

"It was selfish of me to kiss you, I shouldn't have done that." He says again. His eyes are filled with worry and sorrow.

"I need to go." My voice cracks as I walk toward the door.

Goosebumps take over my skin yet again, and I know it isn't because of this outside air. My heart breaks when I see the look on his face. The girl he loves, running away from him again. I step back into the hallway, peering down it. All I can hear is the loud sound of the music playing from the gym. I almost forgot that it's homecoming.

My eyes turn back to Grayson in the courtyard. His head hangs low as he stares at the ground. Pain and agony flashes through me as I remember the last time I saw him like this.

My knuckles lightly tap on the wooden door, my heart is already aching at the pain I'm about to put this amazing man through. I inhale a sharp breath and wait for him to be in front of me.

"Coming!" I hear his happy voice yell from inside. The minute the door opens, his eyes widen. "Rachel, what are you doing here? You're supposed to be resting."

"I know what the nurse said, I just need to talk to you." My shaky voice tells him. He gives me a confused look, but nods his head. I step into the quiet house as tears begin to form in my eyes.

"I was going to come over to check on you." He starts to tell me. "Are you feeling okay?"

I stay silent as I look down at the carpeted floor. "Grayson, I don't think we can do this anymore."

"What do you mean?" He slowly asks.

"We need to stop seeing each other." I repeat my hurtful words.

The way his sad face drops indicates that he is completely shocked by what I just told him. "Rachel, why are you saying this?"

"Because everything that happened over the past few weeks is too much for me, and you." Tears pool my eyes as my voice shakes.

"I told you I would be here for you no matter what, if this is because I said I love you-"

"It's not you, it's me." I can't believe I just pulled the most cliché break up line in history on a boy who was never my official boyfriend.

"Where is this coming from? Is this about Ethan?" His face is painted with one emotion: confusion.

"No, I just think that we should stop everything. In the end you're only going to get your heart broken." I want to use my words to hurt him, hoping he'll go from loving me to hating me.

"I know you're hurting right now after what happened yesterday but-"

"But nothing, Gray. We shouldn't be fooling around anymore." I cut him off.

"It's more than that and you know it." He shakes his head in denial.

"I'm sorry, but It's over." I whisper as I go to walk out the front door.
