Hours Later...

How could I let this happen? Even though I did everything I possibly could to keep her safe, I still ended up causing her some type of pain, and that is the last thing I wanted to do. Maybe she would've been better off without me in her life, but I wouldn't have been truly happy with anyone else except her. On top of that...I didn't want to miss out on possibly having a normal life, being a father to our daughter, and being a husband to Alex. Yes...you heard me right. I said husband!

Marriage has been heavy on my mind, but I couldn't think about that right now, especially when I didn't know if Alex was dead or alive. I looked around at everyone that was sitting in the waiting room, looking at their sad and distraught facial expressions as they sat there quietly.

Bruce said alone in the corner, staring down at the floor, with his hand over his mouth. I'm sure he was deep in thought, thinking of how he should've told her the truth from the very start, instead of keeping it from her.

Sidekick Robin sat with his elbows on his knees and his hands together, looking as if he were praying or something, but I couldn't really tell. I knew how close he and Alex were, so I knew this was hard for him.

Blue was pacing the floor, clenching Frost's jacket around her, as she tried to force herself not to cry. Little did she know, I was right there with her, forcing myself not to cry like I did a few hours ago.

Frost sat a few chairs down from me, his arms folded across his chest, as he watched his girlfriend pace back and forth. It was my fault that he was in this fucked up predicament, especially after I told him not to tell my secret; even though he did so anyways by telling his girlfriend.

The other few unknown people were silent as well, keeping their heads down, not bothering to speak about what was going on. We all cared about one thing and one thing only...making sure Alex was alive and okay.

"Mr. Wayne?" A doctor spoke, stepping into the waiting room. Bruce jumped up from his seat, along with me and sidekick Robin, as we all stood in front of him. My stomach was in knots, nervous about what he was about to tell us.

"How is she?" Bruce asked.

"She's fine. Her cuts were pretty deep, but not deep enough to rupture a major vein, and she lost a lot of oxygen from being underwater for so long so we've provided her with some oxygen. Now, I must inform you that we've placed your daughter under a seventy-two hour psych evaluation, since she tried to harm herself. She has to stay here for a few days, just so we can monitor her, but after that...she'll be transferred to Arkham." The doctor explained.

"Absolutely not! Arkham is out of the question."

"Excuse me?"

"She is NOT going to Arkham!"

"But sir-" The doctor began, but I chimed in.

"What did he just say? She is not going and that's final!" Bruce glanced at me, but nodded his head, somewhat pleased that I was agreeing with him. Well...that's a first.

"Mr. Wayne, your daughter tried to commit suicide tonight. That is serious and to make sure she isn't a danger to herself or other, she needed to be evaluated." The doctor spoke.

"Evaluate her all you want, but it won't be in Arkham. Now, you can do your seventy-two hour evaluation here, but if you think that I'm allowing my daughter to go back to that dreadful place then you are dead wrong!" Bruce hissed, as everyone looked at him.

"O-okay well...I will call and make other arrangements."

"You do that. Now, can we go see her?"

"Yes sir, but only one person at a time. She's sedated and she needs her rest." He said, as Bruce walked out of the room, not even bothering to ask if anyone else wanted to go first. Sure, he's her father and he has the God given right to see her first, but at the same time...it's the principle of the situation.

Another hour had went by before Bruce came back into the waiting room, looking completely distressed and heartbroken. He said nothing to nobody as he grabbed his coat and signaled for a woman, who I'm guessing was his girlfriend, along with an older man who I remember to be his butler, as they all prepared to leave.

"Bruce? What's wrong?" Sidekick Bat asked, furrowing his eyebrows. Bruce just shook his head, not giving him an answer, as he turned and looked at me.

"You can go see her now, but make sure you come back to my house afterwards." He said, not even bothering to wait for my response. He walked out of the waiting room, followed by his two companions. I looked over at Frost, as he and his girlfriend were looking back at me.

"Go on, J." Frost spoke, as I got up from my seat and walked out of the waiting room. I'm not sure why I was so nervous, but I didn't know what to expect whenever I walked into her hospital room. The way Bruce walked out, looking like he lost his best friend, basically told me that Alex probably ripped him a new ass hole. I didn't want to go in here with high hopes, only to walk out crushed like Bruce did. Unlike him though, I refused to leave here without somehow getting back on Alex's good side.
