Chapter 44: The Exceed's realisation

"Who are you?!"

Lector, the red exceed had his posture ready for battle, staring at the stranger in front of him, demanding an explanation. All he had remembered was Mervin's sudden attack while he's trying to explain himself. When he had his consciousness, he realized an unrecognized woman sitting on the couch with a gentle smile on her face. He's alarmed since the guild master had just attacked him, hinting that he had angered the master and will soon be no longer in the guild.

Lector wasn't smart, but he does have judgment and alertness. He knew that he wouldn't be able to fight against the woman in front of him since he just went against the guild master in Sabertooth.

"Sabertooth's mark is a matchless mark if excellence. As if it fit for the Cat and Dogs! Be gone!"

Remembering Sandaime's words, there's no sense of familiarity in his words towards the long-term member. Tears were about to dripped out of the corners of his eyes, yet he refused to let his emotions out. Through that phrase, he firmly believes that there's no way that the master will let him continued to be here in the guild. His mind start to stir up suggestions of the woman sitting in front of him.

The woman had a carefree attitude, completely ignoring the exceed in front of her. With her hands on her book, she flipped the page as if she doesn't care about the exceed's attitude in front of her.

"What do you want from me!?"

"Calm down, Lector."

With her eyes on the book, she smoothen the exceed to calm his emotions. Yet contradicting her thinking, somehow her words has made Lector more anxious, throwing out more questions to the woman.

"Did the guild master told you to guard me!? Are you going to kill me?!"

"If Mervin really want you dead, he had already laid his hands on you. He don't need other people to clean up 'worthless' the guild members."

Lector immediately hold his tongue as his expression was filled with sorrow. A sudden memory had appeared within his brain. A woman with her cape overshadowing her face, only revealing her beautiful smile held his and Frosch within her arms travelled around the city, slacking from her guild work.

If she's still the master, she wouldn't call people worthless.

Lector held his tears, as if comforting himself, he let out a small voice.

"......I am not worthless."

"What is it?"

The woman's indifferent attitude had made Lector carries more courage in his words. In his mind, a long forgotten memory had been showcased. The woman who have a cape over herself protected them from a dark guild attack. She was at the peck of exhaustion, yet she continued to stand up, protecting her guild.

"I am not worthless! No matter how much you disregard my abilities, removing my guildmark, separating me from Sting-kun , I will always remain as Sabertooth member and forever Sting-kun's partner!"

That's right. No matter what difficult situation we face, that person always stood up and face it. She constantly fell and become restless, but she never give up on her guildmate. Because her guildmates are her pride.

After saying those words, Lector felt a the heaviness within his heart had been lifted, unconsciously a warm smile was placed on his lips. It had been long for him to smile brightly, a sense of freedom had entered his heart, which made him losses his guard. The woman stared at him with surprised eyes, then broke out a laughter mischievously.

"Too bad, Lector. What if Sting is going to abandon you? What if the guildmates kick you out of the guild? What are you going to do living alone?"

"Sting-kun will not abandon me!"

"How can you be so sure?"

"Because I believe in him."

"Believe? Such faith could be broken apart easily. You know humans are experts on lying."

"No matter what you say, I will believe in Sting-kun, even if he abandon me, I will still stay by his side forever."

The determination was revealed on Lector's eyes, burning as if an eternal flame shone in the darkness, chasing away all doubts and hesitation. The woman only glance at him, speechless. She then revealed a smile, a familiar smile that Lector felt a sense of nostalgia. She then stood up from her chair and head to the Exceed, who had his guard up from the woman's sudden move.

The hand that Lector thought that were going to hit him and went around his back and entered the woman's embrace. Lector's face was immediately flushed red as his mind was incapable to caught up with the situation.

Yet he could still heard her voice, gently whispered to his ears.

"Thank you for believing in our guild, Lector. Sorry for the long wait, I'm back now to remake everything."

Back? Did I met this woman before? But she does smell familiar..

She then released Lector with a mischievous smile.

"By the way, my name is Jamie Kransinki."

Jamie? Isn't that Nidame's name? Wait-

Lector was surprised when he heard the name as he remembered a blue cape hanging behind the woman when he first awakened. He then turned his head to the cape again. His eyes were widened as if he doesn't believe what he saw. A blue cape with the Sabertooth symbol.

That means-

He then slowly turned to the woman in front of him. The same childish smile that had been always appeared on Nidame. He was frozen up as he heard a snap of a camera and giggles from the woman.

"Well that was a hideous expression you have there, Lector."

"So did you told him your identity?"

Giggling softly as she continued the embraces the exceed in her arms, Jamie connected her lacrima with its other pair. Minerva who had just finished cleaning up the guild matters, answered the call in her room with a tired smile.

"It's a surprise that you suddenly dropped him over here. I thought you will just put him in the storage space."

"Well. I figure out that he might want to see you first, so I sent him over. By the way, Mervin had lost the match and Sting had taken his place by using Lector as a hostage."

"Hm~then that brat properly is glaring at you right now."

"Not glaring, his gaze is too fierce and piecing that I thought he's gonna kill me."

Jamie giggle softly as she caressed the soft fur of the sleeping figure.

"Tomorrow is the end of the competition. Are you coming?"

Minerva asked while her expression was fixed. She knew that Jamie didn't want to reveal herself to the crowd yet, especially towards the Fairy Tail. Jamie had been lying on them and that guilt had buried her thoughts. When Minerva turned her gaze toward the woman in the lacrima, Jamie just return the gaze with a kind smile.

"I will go since that what I had promised."
