"What did I mean by what?" Bakugou raised an eyebrow.
He really didn't know.
"What did you mean when you said we didn't want anymore kids?"
Bakugou shrugged. "Exactly what it sounds like."
"But you said we...as if I didn't want to do it again..."
"Yeah. So?"
"Katsuki, we didn't discuss this." Kirishima had an unfamiliar twist in his stomach. He couldn't figure out what it was.
"We did, when you first decided to bring the kids in."
"Me? We both decided."
"No we didn't. You sprung the idea on me and then all of a sudden there were two annoying brats in our house."
"Those annoying brats were our family!"
"No they weren't! They weren't ours."
"That doesn't mean they're not family! I was adopted!"
"What even put that stupid idea in your head anyway?" Bakugou was angrier than Kirishima had ever seen him. The redhead felt that stomach twist bubble up and explode inside him. He was angry as well. Angry at himself. Angry at Bakugou.
"I WANTED TO GET FUCKING MARRIED, KATSUKI! BUT YOU'RE TOO MUCH OF AN IDIOT TO GET THE MESSAGE!"
"I'M TOO MUCH OF AN IDIOT? YOU WON'T GET THE MESSAGE THAT I DON'T WANT TO MARRY YOU!"
Kirishima felt his heart break at those words. His anger faded away to pure despair.
"Of course you don't. You've never even told me that you love me."
"I DO ALL THE TIME, YOU FUCKING MORON."
"NO YOU DON'T!" Kirishima clenched his fists. "You've never said it. All I get is "whatever" and "you too" and it fucking hurts, Katsuki. It makes me feel like you're trying to lie."
"If you weren't such an idiot..."
"And...you never want to take any big steps with me. You won't even come out to your parents, or hold my hand in public. The only reason you moved in with me was because you wanted to get out of your parents house!"
"You knew about that?" Bakugou's voice softened, but not because he was calming down. This was guilt. He was feeling guilty that he was caught, that Kirishima had known all along, but refused to believe it until now.
"Yeah. I knew."
"Well...it's fucking true, okay. I only moved in with you to be away from my parents. That's the only reason I've stayed with you this whole time."
If Kirishima's heart wasn't shattered, it certainly was now. He struggled to hold back tears when he spoke again.
"You won't have to worry about keeping the apartment, then."
"Huh?"
"I SAID YOU CAN KEEP THE FUCKING APARTMENT!"
Kirishima backed out of the door, slamming it behind him harder than he had ever slammed anything before.
He was halfway out the building's front door before he realized he wasn't wearing shoes, and already on the street before he realized he didn't have his phone...or any money.
Which of his friends lived closest?
Jiro and Kaminari were close but they were so busy with wedding plans. Sero was the second closest, but he was probably working.
Which left Mina...who lived on the other side of town.
It was time to get walking.
