contest: The book worm awards

placement: first place in fantasy and spiritual

Wining my first contest meant a lot to me. Previously I was very, pessimistic about my own writing. I thought I was no good. I'd placed third place before in a different contest: 'The Net Monthly Awards' but the 'Book Worm Awards' was my first win, especially in the Spiritual & Mythical Creatures (Fantasy) category which had a lot of competition. It gave me the confidence I needed to carry on with my writing

1. What's your favorite book?

I have so many at different times it's hard to keep track but right now it would have to be either 'Carry On' by Rainbow Rowell or 'The Ship of the Dead' by Rick Riordan.

2. What's your favorite holiday and why?

Either Christmas or Nigerian independent day, because they involve lots of food.

 3. What's your schedule regarding your writing?

It is completely and utterly erratic, especially now since I'm in the middle of very important exams.

 4. What's a song you enjoy? Who is the artist?

Just like with my taste in books this changes very rapidly. Right now it's probably either 'The Gorgeous ones' or 'His 'n' His', both by Matt Fishel. One of his songs, '17 Again', is the inspiration for one of my first books on Wattpad, although that one's about to go through major revision.

 5. If you could gain advice from your favorite author, who would you choose and what would you do?

Rainbow Rowell. I'd ask her how she managed to create such an amazing magic system for the world in her book 'Carry On'. I want to make a proper magic system for the sequel to 'Falling Apart'.

 6. What's your favorite snack?

Plain salted potato chips. I'm a simple woman of simple tastes.

 7. How would you spend a rainy day?

I usually spend it writing, on YouTube or, as of late, studying.

 8. Who is your favorite author?

Rick Riordan, at least for now.

9. If you earned a publishing deal, how would you celebrate?

I'd come out to my parents first and foremost. After that I'm not entirely sure, depends on how successful my book is afterwards.

10. What's your favorite movie?

Ooh, this is a tough one. Right now I have to say 'John Wick'. I'm not a violent person but I have to say I have a thing for action scenes and movies done well.

11. What's your dream vacation?

Mediterranean hopping. I'm a bit of a history nut and by far my favorite period in history is the start of Alexander the Greats campaign right up to Cleopatra's death, namely the Hellenistic era. I'd love to visit the great monuments of civilizations that sprung up and fell along the Mediterranean shores. Something about that era is just fascinating, especially since Hellenistic rulers were notorious for overzealous partying.

Request time!

I think I'll write a book about that soon. Now if you have any spare time on your hands I'd recommend reading my book 'Falling Apart' which won the contest and keeping an eye out for another book I have planned; a queerer (although not by much) retelling of Twelfth Night.
