Chapter 9: The First Test

Against all odds, danger will subside with enough resistance.

Pushing through the dense pack of counter-protesters in the center of Açaí Town, Noctowl finds the anti-human group in question, the Human Killers. A blood-covered Gumshoos leads the rhetorical assault, attempting to force his audience to abide by his ruthless rant. Upon discovering Noctowl from within his range of vision, Gumshoos powers his voice to his absolute maximum.

"Why can't you idiots get it!? Humans are to blame for all the trouble that is happening to our world! All must be eradicated from our territories in order to protect our integrity as a independent civilization!"

With one of his eyebrows raised, Noctowl flies to the center of town to face the anger-driven leader of the Killers. He patiently awaits Gumshoos to turn around and debate his rhetoric, careful of the cannibalistic image that the bloody fangs impose on the audience.

"And how exactly do you know it's all humans?"

"Hunh? Do you doubt my truth!?"

"I know it isn't. There's an even split of humans and Pokémon living in this town, and everyone here doesn't have any problems with the cultural exchanges that both sets of beings share. Even if there were humans that try to paint a bad image on their kind, they are easily disposed of by their ethical counterparts. Don't you dare spread anymore of your nonsense in this town! Leave!"

"NO! I won't goddamn leave until every single on in here does what I say! Interrupt me one more time, and everyone here dies! Do I make myself clear!?"

Anticipating a hyper-aggressive initiative from the Killers, Noctowl motions his left wing for Mawile, Pikachu, and Espeon to get into battle position. Sensing that the group is charging an Ice Beam, a Thunderbolt, and a Signal Beam to counter the Killers' incoming assault, Noctowl points his right wing towards Gumshoos' face, fact-checking his rhetoric in the process.

"You were never clear from the start. So, no."

"That's it! KILL THEM!"

Upon the roar of their leader, the Killers commence their aggression on Noctowl and the citizens, but were quickly halted by the trio of attacks that the group unleashed. From this, the battle for Açaí's people begins.

Gumshoos called over five of his Yungoos minions to regroup and refocus their aggression towards Mawile's team.

"Who the hell are those three invalids who dared to attack my army!?"

"What army? It's only four of you, so it ain't that bad."

"So you think you're tough, eh, pink hyena!? You deserve punishment for the damage you and your little minions have caused to this world!"

"That's some weird jargon you got there. Come on, kiddos, it's time to beat them down!"

"Let's go."

"Yeah!"

Pikachu commences the counteroffensive by launching an Extreme-Speed against another Yungoos minion who was biting one of the civilians, knocking him out cold. Following this, Mawile releases her Ice Beam in three bursts to trap three Yungoos in a ground-level prison, allowing Espeon to shoot her Signal Beam as if her head jewel were a sniper rifle; precisely aiming towards their heads to stun them. Noctowl continues the counterattack by mashing two Yungoos with a Steel Wing. After landing the attack, he makes an evacuation order to his fellow Açaíans, knowing full well that his own life is at higher risk.
