Keith's POV - One Year Later

"AGH!" I collapsed to the ground, curling into a ball. The pain was getting worse. It felt like my back was on fire. After a couple minutes, the pain subsided to a dull tingling.

Only one more week, and then you can relax. One more week and the house'll be finished. You can go wherever and stay there for eternity without running into anyone.

I reminded myself. Everything had been going so smoothly. The Olkarions were more than happy to help, and everyone we hired worked well with the alien engineers. Shay had surprised us with a crystal only a short time after we had asked for one. People from all over the galaxy had chimed in, giving us something to help move the build along. We had seen a few progress pictures, but only of the property and frame of the house. The rest was a mystery until the big reveal. What is WRONG with me?!

I bit my lip in frustration, soon tasting the metallic tang of blood. My head was spinning and pounding at the same time. The night sky seemed to be blending with the desert floor below me.

"Maybe... going for... a walk... was a bad... idea..." I gasped, falling to the ground. Black began to edge my vision. I could hear my heart beating erratically as the black took over more and more.

Maybe it'll be over now...
