Keith's POV
"I just don't understand why you came back. I still don't trust myself." I looked at the ground in shame. "Well I can't just let y'all die, y'know." She smiled. "But-" "Look. Here's the thing. You do trust yourself, whether you realize it or not," My friend replied. "You took over Voltron when they were lost. You lead them, and look where that got you. Everyone you care about is safe. Isn't that proof?" She looked right into my eyes. "You're gonna be okay, Keith." Her neon blue gaze shone with an emotion I couldn't quite read. I looked at the ground again, trying to hide a small smile. "We'll see."
I sat by myself at the island in the kitchen, thinking in silence.
That void feels full again... should I be concerned? If it really is because she came back... no, it can't be. I can't let anyone in. They'll get hurt. Besides, I don't have time for anyone. I have to lead Voltron! What happens if something were to keep me from doing that? What do I do then?
I can't let anyone else suffer because of me.
"Keith? Why're you up so early?" Lance walked into the kitchen. More like stumbled. "Are you drunk or something? You look exhausted." I stated. "Thanks you look great too." He muttered. "Sorry. Seriously though, did you sleep?" I frowned. "No not really. Poor Pidge was up all night in pain." He yawned into his robe sleeve. "Is she okay?" "She finally fell asleep about five minutes ago. I came to get some pain meds and Benadryl in case she woke up again. Besides, I need sleep too, so my plan is to make sure she's comfortable and asleep before I sleep." He shrugged. I was the only person who knew about their relationship. Lance trusted me not to tell anyone that they were dating, and I had no intentions of losing his trust.
"Alright. But if she gets any worse, she's going to the med bay, and you're getting knocked out. If you want to care for her you've got to be well-rested yourself." I said. He nodded, heading back.
Be careful, you two.
Lance's POV
I quietly entered the room, setting the medicines on my side table. Pidge whimpered, curling into a ball. "L-Lance?" She croaked. "I'm here." I walked over to her side. "Everything hurts." "I know. Is there anything I can do to help?" "Pain meds?" She asked. "Of course." I handed her the pills as well as the Benadryl. "It'll help you fall asleep." I said. Pidge sighed, taking the pills. "Thank you." She thanked me, burying herself in the blankets. I took Benadryl as well and flopped onto my side of the bed, exhausted. I rolled onto my side, reaching out to rest my hand on hers. Pidge smiled, drifting off to sleep only a few minutes before me.
