"Where did I put that stupid thing?!" Pidge growled. I heard clanging coming from her room. "What'cha lookin' for?" I asked, stepping inside. "Nothing important!" She snapped. "Pidge if it weren't anything important you wouldn't be looking this hard for it." I stated. "Whatever, just get out! I'm not in the mood for talking." Pidge retorted. "Can I help y-" "I SAID GET OUT! I DON'T WANT HELP! JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!" The small paladin screamed, tears running down her face. "W-Pidge what's wrong?!" I ran to her side. "Nothing's wrong!" "You are the world's worst liar." I said. "W-Well y-you'd b-be l-lyin-ng too i-if your m-mom j-just died!" She sobbed. My eyes widened in shock. "Your mom... oh, Pidge, I'm so sorry!" Burying her face against my chest, Pidge screamed, crying even harder. I felt awful. Slowly, I wrapped my arms around her, sitting on the ground. She curled up in my lap, still crying into my shirt. "T-That s-stupi-d p-person s-should never h-have been drinking a-and dr-driving! I-It's all h-his fault!" She hiccuped. "Shhh." I tried to soothe her as much as I could. Even though it wasn't my mom that had died, I still felt the pain. My friend was struggling to breathe at this point. I could tell her chest was tight, probably from anxiety. "Pidge." I spoke quietly. "Look at me." I set my right hand under her chin, lifting her head so she was looking at me. "I know how it feels to lose someone you love. People will tell you it's gonna be okay. In reality, it's not. It's never gonna be okay, because someone's gone. But things change. Things change, whether good or bad. This time, it was something bad, and it'll never change back. There'll be a gap where they once were in your life. But please, don't cry. Your mom wouldn't want you to be sad, Pidge." I murmured. "H-How d-do you-" "I just do. Trust me." I pulled her closer, resting my chin on her shoulder. The two of us sat there for a long time, mourning Pidge's loss. "Don't leave me..." "Huh?" I frowned. Pidge was barely awake. "I can't lose you too..." She whimpered.

She must be confused and exhausted after crying for who knows how long.

"I love you..."

WHAT?!

I squeaked by accident. I was about to ask Pidge if she was okay, but the poor thing had already fallen asleep. My heart was racing.

Did she seriously just say that?! She was barely awake, she had to be hallucinating, or something! There's no way that could be true!

Eventually I began to drift off, exhausted from the day's events.
