I have posted this on Amino but I thought it would be nice to post it here. I'll also be posting a short AU here in a few minutes that is also on Amino for those who don't have it. Enjoy!
_______________"Where are they going?" Armen pouted, attempting to catch the last few Fireflies before their yellow glow extinguished, the two brothers left behind in only the light of the stars and the moon.
Collin laughed into the back of his hand, the younger child glaring with his bottom lip out in a pout, crossing his arms over his frail chest. The auburn allowed his hand to fall, looking to his sibling with a bright smile, dimples on his freckled cheeks. Deep blue eyes gleamed in the moonlight, beautifully complimented in the dark of night.
"Seems that you scared them away." He giggled, playfully teasing his brother as he often did, no ill will behind his words.
The raven haired puffed his cheeks, clenched fists by his side. He was not angry, just frustrated at his lack of a catch. "No! I didn't mean too!"
Collin was genuinely surprised by the increase of light in his brother's eyes, glimmering like diamonds that continued to multiply. His chest felt tight once he realized that they were tears. He quickly thought of something to say to calm Armen down, anxious sweat dabbing his face.
"Relax, Armen. I'm sure they'll be out again tomorrow. Let's just-"
The elder child froze as he stared into the night sky, brightened by celestial light. His eyes fixated on a magnificent swirl of silver within the black void, which had a faint blue hue from the reflection on the light against the earth's atmosphere. The sky twinkled like glitter spilled upon a countertop, millions of sparkled bedazzling the sky. The cluster of celestial bodies caught the boy's eyes, mesmerized by its absolute beauty.
Armen tilted his head, scared for a moment as to why his brother would suddenly freeze in place. He asked his brother what was wrong, not receiving a reply straight away. He was about to follow Collin's gaze when his slightly deepened voice broke the uncomfortable silence. His slightly tanned finger lifted, pointing into the air above. "Look up at the sky."
Armen turned his small head, wide cyan eyes becoming wider as he truly focused on the night sky for the first time that evening. His eyes settled upon the twinkling swirl that stood out against all of the stars. It stretched out against the void, like the main subject on a canvas painting.
"Wow, What is it?" Armen turned his head as his elder brother slowly walked passed, stopping by the edge of the smooth flowing river. "Collin, what are you doing?"
"I haven't seen the Milky Way in a long time. I forgot how beautiful it was."
Armen lowered a brow?, head tilting slightly to the left as he inches closer to Collin. "Milky way? Is that a bunch of milk in the sky!"
Collin laughed at the thought. Children had such wide imaginations. He sat on the cool, dark green grass which was damp from the occasional droplets of water from the stream hitting it when the wind was harsh. Thankfully it had died down to nothing but a faint breeze that was easy to ignore.
"No, Armen. It's...well, it's millions of stars and planets outside of our solar system, so...stars and planets so far away that they cluster up and look milky."
He did not know how to describe it in terms that Armen could understand. He really hoped that his brother would just go with it and not keep asking questions that would ruin the moment.
"Cool..." Armen basked before he watched Collin dip his feet into the water, growing anxious. "Mom and Dad said that you'll get sick if you go swimming at night."
The auburn shrugged it off. "I'll be fine, it's not cold. Besides, I'm only putting my legs in. It...helps me to relax."
Armen looked from his brother, to the water, to the sky, then back to the stream. The light from the night sky twinkling against the calm current, listening to its sounds as he realized how soothing it was, like a calming lullaby.
Armen sat down and removed his shoes after seeing how relaxed his brother looked. Collin rarely looked so at peace. Once his shoes were off, the child shuffled to his sibling, dipping his small feet into the water. He flinched since it was mildly cold, but nothing bitter. Besides, he got used to it in a matter of seconds.
Collin flinched as he felt Armen's head rest against his arm, the child cuddling up against him for comfort."It is nice."
Collin recovered from his surprise, a soft smile stretching on his cheeks. He ruffled up Armen's hair, causing the boy to groan in annoyance and push his hand away. The elder sibling laughed before looking back up at the stars.
"Can you spot any constellations?"
Armen gazed at his brother with confusion in his cyan eyes. "What are those?"
"Pictures that the stars create. It's like when you look up at the clouds and make pictures with them, except using stars instead."
Armen smiled, beginning to look for pictures in the sky with the stars. The two sat there, pointing out consolations, mostly ones that Armen made himself such as a cat and found the big and Little Dipper, while Collin found the more complex one such as Leo and the Hydra. He always laughed when Armen had no clue what he was talking about.
Collin lifted his head as he heard a tiny snore, vibration running up his arm. His blue eyes averted from the stars to his little brother whose eyes were closed and lips partially parted as he snores quietly. Collin smiled, deciding that it was time to head home. He took his feet out of the water, socks soaked but he paid little attention to his. He could not move without waking Armen, picking him up gently as Armen groaned from sleep."Collin?" The child question, taking in the brief moment where he had no clue where he was or why.
Collin made sure his legs were wrapped around him, arms around his shoulders as he held the boy with his own arms beneath his rear. Collin's smile widened as Armen nuzzled his face into his neck, groaning as he began to fall asleep once more.
"Let's get home and get you to bed before mom and dad get mad."
Collin began to carry his brother home where he dried their legs, tucked him in with a kiss to the forehead. Upon seeing Armen shivering, Collin sighed and slipped into Armen's bed to warm and comfort his brother. His cheeks blushed in embarrassment, but as Armen unconsciously cuddled up against him, Collin began to settle down. He wrapped his arms around him, wishing his little brother a goodnight before falling into his own blissful sleep.
