Here are a few foods you will find when traveling to El Salvador or going to a Salvadoran restaurant.
Quesadilla - Salvadoran quesadilla is not the same as a Mexican quesadilla (tortillas with cheese and stuff in between), Salvadoran Quesadilla is a (delicious) pastry baked with Salvadoran cheese
Semita - also an (awesome) flaky pastry with pineapple, guava or strawberry filling
Pupusa - this is probably the best dish you'll ever have. Pupusas are staple foods in El Salvador, home made tortillas filled with beans, cheese and pork.
Yuca Frita - "fried yuca" I often compare yuca frita to French fries although yuca is not potatoes. Many countries have their own recipe for yuca frita and they are equally awesome except El Salvador's is better (I'm biased)
Empanadas - empanadas are balls of fried plátanos that are filled with a sweet or savory filling like custard or refried beans
