Chaos...Always the part I hated about rescuing big groups of people. The running around, everyone yelling at once, the panicking...it can get to be a bit nerve wracking when experiencing so much of it. Overwhelming even, leaving me wanting to put my head through a concrete wall.
"Hey! I need some help!" John calls as we rush into the clinic carrying the man bleeding acid. "Stand back." He warns as Caitlin rushes out from examining Lauren's concussion.
"What happened?" Caitlin questions, and I watch the beads of sweat form on her forehead.
"Uh, his body secretes some kind of acid." John briefly explains.
"Get the others in room two. We need a doctor!" Cait calls, leading John and I to a separate room. "Put him down here." John puts the man down onto the emergency stretcher, wincing as his skin comes in contact with the mans. "Be careful. Don't touch him." Cait warns Dr.Kelsey as he rushes over to the guys side.
"John, your hands." I glance at the red burns scattered throughout his hands.
"I'm fine." He takes off his shirt which has four huge holes in it due to carrying acid guy all the way from the car. "We almost had Lorna and Andy."
"I still don't understand." Cait places her hands onto her hips. "How did you let Andy get away?"
"It's was chaos, we were trying to save the patients and deal with the cops." I explain to the blonde, while eyeing shirtless John. The long hair and the abs definitely do something for me.
"But you couldn't track him?" Cait looks to John.
"Caitlin, there was too much going on. All right? The mutants using their powers, and the cops showed up and the noise— it was sensory overload for me. I couldn't tell one track from another." John sighs, pulling a sea-foam colored scrub top over his head.
"We were just so close. Lauren got hurt, we didn't get Andy." I love Caitlin, she's a great person, but sometimes she just doesn't know how to take what we're saying and let it be. There's always more questions, and panicking. "We-we don't even know who they took or why."
"We're not gonna give up. We're gonna bring Andy home. Him and Lorna. I promise, okay? We just have to get ahead of the Inner Circle. We have to figure out what they're planning." John promises.
"How?" She asks.
"That man, he was on the same floor as Andy and Lorna. Maybe he can tell us something." John shrugs.
"If he makes it." Cait looks down at her hands.
"Caitlin, we did the best we could out there. All right? Please, let's just try and salvage something from this." John sighs, and for some reason I start to feel bad. "This can't have been for nothing."
—
"I can't stop the bleeding. The acid keeps eating through the gauze." Caitlin changes her gloves for like the millionth time in the ten minutes we've been working on this guy.
